i never disagreed with his selection or anything like that, all i was doing was pointing out that he did not have a first class century.

TEA TIME! Fleming has decided to declare, which I'm a bit upset about as I would have waited till Oram got his fifty then declare. But it is a good time as the bangladeshis will be tiring after fielding for 5 sessions.
NZ 545/6 decl.
Fleming 202
Marshall 69
Astle 39
Oram 38*
Best Bangladesh bowler Rafique 3/130

And another whitewash...unless the debutant can show that he's worthy of batting at three. Shame that Nafis Iqbal went - I reckon he should cement his place as an opener. Omar, Iqbal and Bashar could be a potent top-three force IMO...if they could only release the potential in some of their bowlers such as Enamul and Mortaza, if he ever returns...

It's a shame, because what looked like improvement last season now seems to have gone firmly back into huge innings-defeats.

Congratulations to Fleming on a brilliant Double Hundred. He surpasses Martin Crowe as highest scorer in Tests for NZ.

While Martin Crowe would, without doubt be regarded as NZ's premier batsmen and one of the best batters of world cricket in the past, Stephen comes very close and in the coming year prove he is worthy of consideration as NZ's greatest ever batsman.

IMO he is definitely one of the best ODI batsman.

well done Flem to set up a big total - BAN already looking at a follow on being 3 down at stumps for less than 100...........

a bit disappointing to see Marshall struggle at the crease v spin, but I suppose it enforces the view that he likes the ball coming onto the bat.......much the same as Sinclair..........

Marshall should have been given out LBW on his first ball that he faced, although it was plumb, I am happy that he got past fifty.

I read somewhere else that Fleming has also picked up another record - the most test runs while captain of an international side - taking over from Brian Lara.

Can anyone confirm this?

I find it difficult to believe given Allan Border played 93 Tests as captain to Flem's 62. Just researched this for no apparent reason...

1 Border 6623
2 Lloyd 5233
3 Chappell 4209
4 Fleming 4102 (following 202 vs Bangladesh)
5 Lara 4026
6 Atherton 3815
7 Waugh 3714
8 Simpson 3623
9 Gooch 3582
10 Sobers 3528
11 Gavaskar 3449
12 Taylor 3250
13 Ranatunga 3118
14 May 3080
15 Richards 3068
16 Azharuddin 2856
17 Cronje 2833

Current score: 51/4 at Tea after following on, still 312 behind NZ's first innings, good solid performances by Nz spin twins, but was expected to happen. Vettori 2/10, Wiseman 1/20

Student house :p
Fancy student lodgings...

We had a dishwasher in one of our student flats once - we kept putting dishes in there, and taking them out to handwash for dinner the next night as no one could be bothered putting it on.

New levels of slothfulness.

Back to the cricket, and it looks like the winning margin could be considerably larger in this test with Bangladesh 210/8 in their second innings...

seems like it could / should be all over by lunch tomorrow..............

Vettori already has a 2nd 6 for & 10 for the match with 2 wickets remaining.........one hopes he has been bowling well enough to regain not only his confidence but his flight & drift.................

great to see that Franklin has managed to pick up at least 1 wicket each innings and has been economical with it - it says something that he has been more economical than Oram who is usually one of the more economical bowlers in the side.............

Wiseman taking wickets in tandem but still too easily hit about for my liking.........

If I take nothing else from this series, it's that Rafique is good value!

Rather than some of the fringe county players that have come down to be our club's pro, I'm strongly suggesting at the next meeting we put in a bid for Rafique's services. With ICC revenue splits perhaps the Bangladeshis are a lot better paid that I think, but there'd be no harm in making an approach. :)

"Kent you're the captain of a club XI - what do you want me to do?"
"Well, 40 overs a day and a bit of lusty hitting at the top of the order would be ideal."
"OK then!"

Test Blow for Tuffey

NEW ZEALAND'S pace bowling stocks for Australia suffered a devastating blow last night with Daryl Tuffey joining Shane Bond on the sideline for next month's test series.

"My gut feeling is the tests against Australia aren't realistic but I might be a shot for the one-dayers later on"

"I haven't had the bowling and it would be silly to think I could come in against a side like Australia with virtually no work behind me"

Check google for the rest of this story later in the day if you like.

I have to say I'm not quite as 'devastated' as the writer Jonathan Millmow is. If another England tour was on the cards from Tuffey, this could almost be seen as good news that he's started to be honest with himself.
