***Official New Zealand Domestic Season Thread 2009/10

Let's see, Harris is 40 years old and has no future with New Zealand cricket. Even if Canterbury don't select Anderson pick someone with a future, this was something Dermot Reeve talked about last season with CD. He felt his job was to develop cricketers that played for CD and he said he'd always play a younger guy over a older player.

Anyway Canterbury are average as heck, they're not going to win anything this year. Don't see the point in playing Harris at all.
Dermot Reeve obviously proving his point with Mathew Sinclair, Brad Patton and Michael Mason is the line up.

Canterbury increase their chances of winning with Harris.

If we picked a bunch of 20-25 year olds to play for our domestic sides our domestic cricket would suck. It might already but it'd be worse. They'd all be young guys thrashing each other around with no wily old pros to show them up, like your good buddy Yovich for instance.

Guy's like Doug Bracewell and George Worker (who are still a long way from decent FC players) are pretty much picked week in week out. Reeve talked about it last year, yes he want's to win competitions with CD but he's main job is developing players for New Zealand cricket. Something I really liked to hear tbh.

I can agree with that but if its impacting on the performanceo f the team or they're doing REALLY badly then its better to drop them

Him batting Bracewell and Worker all over the place doesnt help though. I'm all for Bracewell batting six or seven, not eight or ten where he sometimes ends up.

Worker has a problem in the batting is stacked and we don't need to pick on potential. He may find a niche at five/six and doing the spin duties (that he already does)

Agree with Flem here. Anyway, Anderson's injured (shoulder, can't remember where I read that and cbf looking back through Stuff/NZHerald to check, but definitely read it somewhere), so it's a moot point in this case.

Yea I just read what another guy said on PC and apparently Anderson couldn't finish one of his spells in the last game and started vomiting mid-way through the over.

Ghey.

Wells might be injured too. there's a .2 in his overs column. Will be a shame if he is.

As I mentioned in the New Zealand vs Pakistan topic, another century for Broom today - based on that sort of form, I wouldn't exactly count him out for the third test given today's batting performance from the national side.

Meanwhile, had to laugh at Mathew Sinclair taking three wickets to clean up the Canterbury innings - he'd taken 14 wickets in 151 previous first class games.
Batting at 5 - wonder why :detective

Harris is playing because they are average. The coach and selectors have a responsibility to, you know, win as much as they can. Harris gives them a better chance.

This Rhodes bloke - does he bowl a bit too?

Another who has NZ ties and looking to make it internationally perhaps?
He's played for NZ under 20s according to Doull so he's eligible.
From Orange  surprised he can get out of bed in the morning.

Anyone heard anything on Greg Hay he seems to have completely slipped off the radar, why did he get dropped in the first place anyway dont remember him being in a bad form infact he was in consideration for NZ and then they dropped him

Had one bad season for CD with still one century. Brad Patton snapped up his place by scoring runs for fun last season.

Has a few technical issues which bowlers started preying on. He'll be back, too much class not to return a better player. He's got quite a batting line up to break into, though Worker might be the weak link for Hay to target.

How about that result bowling stuff in the Auckland - ND game. 100 runs was scored in 25 minutes by Watling and Marshall. IIRC (I think it was him) Reece Young took 1/65 off 5 overs. Auckland forfeited their 2nd innings and ND forfeited their 1st innings. Watling gets a 100 as well.

That 100 by Watling better count, he had already scored most of them before they brang on Young to speed the game up.

The limited overs stuff starts today, Northern Districts and Aucklands game is the only one thats gotten underway yet though. Craig McMillian seems to be in the Canterbury squad also.

Good to see Styris is playing for Auckland - he's going to need a good domestic season to stay in contention for BCs surely.
