Project, I could argue he's the best opening batsmen in the country right now. He's been scoring runs for over a year now, he's young and he knows his game very well, I don't see how that's a project?

McIntosh, now that's a project.

Terrible weather in Auckland and its forecast to get worse, so I doubt theres to be any play in the Auckland vs ND match today.

Good to see Mason and ET carrying on from their efforts in the second innings last week against Otago with a successful start against Canterbury. And in the Wellington match, a century on first class debut for Stewart Rhodes - though have to note that according to Cricinfo he was born in Australia and played for NSW and Sydney sides.

Think he may have coached me once, top bloke, overseas pro, think he played for Johnsonville last season

This Rhodes bloke - does he bowl a bit too?

Another who has NZ ties and looking to make it internationally perhaps?

The Wellington Cricket website says, "If selected to play, all-rounder Stewart Rhodes will make his first-class debut, after acting as a substitute fielder and taking two catches in the second innings of the round two match against the Auckland Aces." They seem to think he can bowl a bit, anyway.

Where's Anderson? Please don't tell me they've dropped him for some 40 year old git, joke if they have.

Lol you're the git for labelling Harris that.

Anderson doesnt score runs or take wickets. He's been a passenger and deserved to be dropped for a consistent run scorer.

In other news look for Daniel Flynn at number three for ND this season trying to show he's worth anything.

That 40 year old git who scored an unbeaten century in the previous match, along with three wickets for next to nothing, plus 250 ODIs and 23 Tests?

I'd somewhat see your point had Anderson been performing, but his performances this season have been average to say the least.

As I mentioned in the New Zealand vs Pakistan topic, another century for Broom today - based on that sort of form, I wouldn't exactly count him out for the third test given today's batting performance from the national side.

Meanwhile, had to laugh at Mathew Sinclair taking three wickets to clean up the Canterbury innings - he'd taken 14 wickets in 151 previous first class games.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I only just realised, Chris Harris is kind of the Graeme Hick of New Zealand, when you look at their career a bit more statistically.

I think what Howsie felt was that the teams shouldn't play those who so obviously have no further future at the international level.
I feel their main aim should to be nurture talent rather than pad the FC record of someone long retired.

If they want to drop Anderson, surely there is someone floating around Canterbury with talent and a future? Maybe had Darren Broom not moved to Otago, he would be getting some game time.

I suppose thats one way of looking at it, but at the same time as nurturing the future of this country's cricketers, surely we're also trying to make New Zealand first class cricket as competitive as possible, and if Harris was good enough to score an unbeaten century in the last match, with his experience and ability I've no problem with him retaining his spot.

You're right, it's a question of whether there is more value in having someone like Harris around a team and bowling to him/facing his bowling, or having someone promising get game time to develop their game.

I don't know which option is better cause I don't know all the cricketers in Canterbury
But personally I'd rather someone other than Harris got a go.

Let's see, Harris is 40 years old and has no future with New Zealand cricket. Even if Canterbury don't select Anderson pick someone with a future, this was something Dermot Reeve talked about last season with CD. He felt his job was to develop cricketers that played for CD and he said he'd always play a younger guy over a older player.

Anyway Canterbury are average as heck, they're not going to win anything this year. Don't see the point in playing Harris at all.

Howsie could have phrased his point slightly better yes, because he does have a point.

But Anderson was barely scoring a run or taking a wicket and Canterbury's primary objective is to win, not make players for NZ. Playing for NZ comes after you produce matchwinning/chaning/saving performances for your province.

Canterbury did exactly what a proffessional team should-they dropped an underperforming player.

Harris was presumably the best allrounder to take Andersons place and proved it with his performance. Harris doesn't have a test/ODI future (well...in saying that there's that 99 all out today and we need a decent allrounder...the selectors COULD have the idea they need experience..I wouldnt agree with it BUT..) but he's a tough batsman to bowl to and his one day bowling is a good experience for any young batsman to deal with. He's also a veteran that can giude the young players in his side and provide a foil for them to bowl/bat with.

Plus Harris is awesome. You do NOT call Harris an old git when he can probably still field ten thousand times better than any of us teenagers at forty, not to mention bat and bowl. Knockers need to be hung, drawn and quartered. :p

Hope he gets a random call up to the test side actualy. Would infuriate Howsie.
