Folks, you've heard of those financing firms (VC's, if I'm not wrong) who make life tough for those to whom they lend money- they strip them of all they own so that they have nothing to fall back on- so that the firms get their money back. Maybe they can use the same for the Indian side for the next ODI series in Zim- cut down the number of specialists to five and have Yadav and Bangar at seven and eight rather than pure batsmen. Then the batsmen have nothing to fall back on, so they have to try a lot harder and score a lot more while the likes of Yadav and Bangar can attack relentlessly. It can get the best ot of all the batsmen, one to eight. Feedback?

RRRAAAAAARGH!!!!!
Irfan gets one. Maybe he had reserved that for Nehra, who said some not-so-flattering things about him in an interview in today's Mid-Day.

Raina has been on the field as a substitute all through the innings so far. Maybe Dravid didnt put him in the position where the run out chance was so obviously destined to come from :D

I think India havethe balance to this side about right 6 batsmen, wicketkeeper, bowling all rounder and 3 specialist bowlers. The only problem I see is mustering ten overs betweenYuvraj, Sehwag etc.

There is a problem- at least one of those six batsmen is not scoring runs. Besides, there are not enough big scores. Somehow, they have to get rid of that 'specialist batsman cushion' so that the specialists get out of that three-year-old comfort zone and score more runs and build bigger partnerships, while the Yadav/Bangar types attack and go for the big ones. That can get in an extra bowler, since there is no way the Indians can consistently muster ten overs with the bit bowlers- look at what happened when Deonarine got eight overs.

I can cut and past a few comments here if you wish, or start a new thread. They're really worth a read.

Unless you have a batting all rounder (i.e a player who can get in side on his batting alone but can also give you ten overs or keep) ala Kalis, Gilchrist, Flintoff, Gayle etc then you are always going to struggle to get 50 good overs. For me if a batsmen isn't performing you don't play less batsmen you replace the one who isn't performing. If the whole line up is not performing then the coach has to take some responsibility. From memory when India were doing very well in ODI's they were playing 7 batsmen with Dravid keeping wicket despite everyone including me thinking it was a daft idea.

I mentioned Ramdin as the man for the job ages ago, but I never figured he'd be ready quite so soon. Thrilled though. Overall it's been a positive campaign for the West Indies.
