Good job of running himself out by Dravid, knowing very well that he was the last specialist batsman. Dhoni plays out the over. Run rate 7+.
i heard conflicting reports..some say it was kaifs mistake...he shud have sent RD back...didn't see it though...

Well I was reading Prem's Blog (from rediff), this is what he says :-

" No single there"

RD, I suspect, got a touch cute. Saw Dilshan struggling with his ankle earlier in the over and limping, figured he wouldn't be quick off the blocks and tried to sneak the single... bad call that, there was no run there, to the front of the midwicket fielder and to his right... that's set India back a touch, because Kaif was the less settled of the two and ideally, it was RD who needed to bat through

The Indians showd take a leaf out of the Aussies book on how to beat the Sri Lankans in their own conditions....

Nice welcome for Greg Chappell to the under achievers club. In a few years he to will forget what winning feels like.

the best team in the tournament wins....just curious how many times in a one day international has there been just one bowler taking all wickets to fall to bowlers in an innings? not too many times, i would think...

i am absoloutely appalled at vvs laxmans ommission oh my go as if the fifth bowler made a hell of a difference if they really wanted a 5th bowler they could have made dravid kept wickets and mrought in jai p but to leave out a batsman of the calibre of vvs is an absoloute disgrace on the part of indias management he is the greatest player in the world in my opinion on his day he could have made a mach winning hundred from the number 3 position yesterday. Another Hydrebad stalwart gets jipped just like azhhar bullsh---t. Im glad they didnt win serves em rite also serves them rite for leaving him out of the worldcup lost there aswell because of our specialist number 7 dinesh mongia hahahahaha. Or what about in bangladesh you ommitted him from that squad lost a onedayer to the tigers. Shame on you india treat a legend with respect.

Yeah.

He should have scored a few more runs and also contributed a bit with his part time off spinners. :p

Whatever it takes!!!
In hindsight, I think India would have been better off with 5 bowlers in the bowler friendly conditions at Dambulla, where scores of 230 were good enough and in those conditions, you can play the extra bowler. But at the Premadasa, with good conditions to bat, I am just wondering whether it would have been worth it to have the extra batsman. Anyways, I think the next triangular in Zim would be under the new rules, so let's see how India cope with it.

And is anyone else appalled by Sangakkara's behaviour? Not just the sledging which was totally uncalled for, but that claim for a catch when the ball hit the inside edge of Yuvi's bat and bounced off the pitch? That is blatant cheating in my opinion, the ball landed a feet away from Yuvraj's shoes, so there is no question of it hitting his shoes and booming up, but Sangy, Murali and the guy at first slip actually went up for a one bounce take. That is the worst I have seen in cricket.

On another note, I think the time has come for INdia to bring back AA. Sure, he is not great but neither are his replacements. And atleast he brings in some good fielding and hard hitting to the team... Nehra cost 20 runs, Dhoni cost 50+, putting down two sitters (okay, one may not have been a nick, but even I would have caught that ball) and struggling to get the ball off the square.

It is amazing that amongst the three contenders, the ones who got all the press have been the worst... PP and MD. I say it is time to stick with the best keeper of the lot and HOPE that he gets better with his batting...

Although Pleased with a Sri Lankan win am sorry to see India lose for a 3rd time.

India almost had the game , but the failure of 1 or 2 of the bowlers to play a cameo innings and take India home was telling.

I feel India needs a Robin Singh like all rounder (ODI all rounders) , may be even 2 who can betwen them fill at least 13- 14 overs and then can be relied upon to play the pinch hitting role or late innings cameos when the run chase is on.

Kaif and Dhoni - The reasons for India's defeats.

Till the time Kaif plays in one-dayers for India, India will always be the losers.
People like Razzaq, Clarke, Cairns bat at the same position where Kaif bats. He does not have a single aggressive shot. This is not to say he is better off when plays in the top-order. He again takes too many balls to settle down and never had the big shots to bring his strike rate up. He definitely is a liability.

Plays so many dot balls, and by doing that, he puts a lot of pressure on the batsmen at the other end, especially while chasing.

You can look at a ball by ball review of all his innings while chasing, when the other batsman scores a single, he plays 2-3 dot balls and then give the strike to the other.

Yuvraj, Sachin, Ganguly and Dravid all had been his victims. I am not saying he is selfish, but he is definitely short in his skill set.

On the fielding front, i would say he is a good fielder but not a great one when compared to Chris Harris, Gibbs, or Chandana.

Take my word, until Kaif is part of the Indian team, dont hope India will win one-dayers against any major teams. Remote chances would be when Sehwag or Dravid pulls off a one-handed victory.

Let us take the case of Dhoni. Even when he scored the century against Pakistan, i thought his batting lacks flair and he does not have too many shots. And also he is not a natural keeper, which proved very costly in the matches against srilanka and almost cost dearly in the match against WI. It is time Dinesh Kaarthick or Pankaj Dharmani to don the gloves. I would tell you Kaarthick is a big hitter of the cricket ball, but he does not always do that in test matches. Given a longer run as Dhoni he would excel himself as a big hitter. Even Sandeep Patel compares him with Gilchrist.

Allrounders , i would say if India dont have any, it is as simple as that, they dont have any. That was not a limiting factor for Australia. Specialists have to do their job and that is what they do.

Get rid of pretenders like Kaif and Dhoni, and we will see India will be back to its winning ways.

I disagree. I think India made the right move going with 5 bowlers. Yes 2 of them bowled poorly, and one of them took a beating near the end but doesn't it make more sense that if playing on a batting pitch, it can be asumed that 6 batsman would be able to do a good enough job and thus the 5 bowlers would be the way to go? I mean on a batsman's pitch why go with 7 batsman? When the bowler's are going to struggle anyway, so having more experienced bowlers in the team would hopefully keep the opposition's score lower. If we had to bowl a part-timer as our 5th bowler who knows how much more they could have scored.

Anyway didn't India need 112 off 108 with 8 wickets in hand? Or something similar to that. Wow we really had a chance to win our first triangular series final in a long time. Quite disappointed :( That being said. I still think India did everything right in selecting the team in this game (their can be an argument for Yadav, but with Ganguly in there I don't see it happening any time soon) we just didn't perform all series really.
