I assume KKD is Karthik?

You would put Pathan and Balaji ahead of him in the order, even though he averages more than the 2 of them put together in FC Cricket?
Karthik's average is one of the most inflated, and misleading, in Indian domestic records. There are as many as 12 batsmen averaging over 50, and 40+ is the standard batting average. But just looking at him bat, one might ask- how does he score so much in FC's?

Who should have made the 12? Nehra or Balaji? On bowling alone, Nehra would be a better choice.

Ganguly has said Nehra and Yuvraj wont play.

I would have preferred Nehra over Balaji but would look at who is fitter in the end.

cmon mate there is no way there's gonna be 2 spinners on this track its gonna be zaheer, pathan & balaji, the only question is which of bhajji or kumble will be picked .It's gonna be a really tough one for saurav & I myself dunno but still if I had to make a choice right now i'd probably say kumble, nebody feels it should be bhajji??
Gotta play Kumble in Mohali! He's in great form lately, Harbhajan should be played in Kolkata for sure, but in Mohali it should be Pathan and Balaji opening with Zaheer as first change and Kumble as the spinner. Then in Kolkata it should be the best 2 out of 3 seamers with Kumble and Singh, then in Bangalore, all 3 seamers with better of Kumble and Singh.

toss is crucial

i personally see the toss playin a most crucial role morrow cos i feel that if there is one way that the ***** can win it is by winnin the toss & makin india bat first on wat appears to be a green top ......[when india batted first in lahore last series on a grassy surface we lost that match & then when pak batted first on a grassy wicket in the 3rd test at rawalpindi they lost it too];thus if pak fields first they have a chance but if they bat first their batting could turn out to be a laughing stock :D :D :D

its not our batting my friend its our bowling which is the question mark, batting is strong butt too razzaq thats 8 players who can bat and rana and sami too can bat sami actually came though the ranks as an all rounder. but i agree bowling first would b the better option on the slightest bowler friendly wicket for pak...although calling pak ***** is a bit childish.

Actually I only knew Jhelum as the river that passes through Srinagar. Is this town on the kashmir side or the Punjab side ?

Whatever it takes!!!
I don't know why Arjun thinks Balaji's performances against Pak in Pak are over rated. IIRC, he toiled hard in the first test, bowled a lot of overs alongside Pathan and Kumble because Zaheer was injured. In the second test, he got vital early breakthroughs and kept us in the game, even though the pitch was a batting beauty on the second and third days. And in the third test, he was our match winning bowler. And about his average, he got hit for a lot by the tailenders in the second innings of the third test when he was striving hard to get his fifer...... And of course, he did get a fifer of dropped catches

I am not saying he is the next legend, he is only average if you look at it overall, but it shouldn't take away the fact that he played a rather vital role against Pakistan in Pakistan. Ultimately, it is how your team mates and your contemporaries rate you that shows your true worth and Sourav rates Balaji pretty high.

balaji performed very well against Pakistan and provided break throughs very often when needed.

In this test he has been preferred to Nehra also because it makes no sense to have three medium pacers and all left armers. I wish people would think about these things before jumping on the selection.

thats interesting. Cricket is not a strong sport on the Indian side in Kashmir.

So, anyone who watched the game: Impressions?
Very disappointing start by Pakistan. Particularly Butt who comitted to playing against the movement of the delivery.

Close call for Younis but the slow motion replay showed the ball did pitch just on line with leg stump.

Pakistan seemed to have recovered very well and it would have been an even session but for Taufiqs getting out playing a shot again just before lunch.

This is what I have always feel about Pakistan's talented young batsmen, you cant stop them for going for those front foot shots early on. Not a great thing for those opening the innings.

I know, I know there is Sehwag but then he is one of a kind. (and he does play a lot of the back foot too)

Very good bowling all round. Zaheer was the best at the start and Balaji provided the break through just when Pakitan seemed to have recovered.

I thought Irfan sprayed a bit at the beginning but overall he too bowled pretty well.

This is the pair on which Pakistan's fortunes now depend. Post lunch they canyt afford to lose another wicket.
