*Official* India Tour of New Zealand 2019

i expected the bowling to get smashed but munro aside, we have a pretty serious top 5. guptill, kane and ross have all performed against quality opposition for a long time. the ease with which india skittle us is concerning.
New Zealand need to play five front line bowlers, have been saying it for months now. Santner, Ferguson and Boult are locks, Sodhi probably should be one too in England.

6. Neesham
7. Santner
8.
9’ Sodhi
10. Ferguson
11. Boult

Kuggeleijn needs a run, would be the perfect number 8 in that team. He’s a better option than Bracewell with the ball, and while probably not quite as good with the bat he’s a much better ball striker (actually they’re pretty close with the bat).

**** Munro off, either play Nicholls up top or bring someone in. Munro can’t go to the word cup.
this guy gets it
Didn’t Phlegm say Sodhi should bat 8?
9 prefferably, if we can get a bowling allrounder like bracewell or kuggs rolling through the middle overs

how'd those crappy muddle-rounder overs go?

guptill
latham
kane
ross
nicholls
neesham
santner
bracewell/kuggs/henry/undecided bowler
sodhi
ferguson
boult

probs the best team we can field tbh bar a few minor changes or taking a punt on a fresh opener. semi finalists at best but if we go to the wc with munro and southee we're toast in the group stages.

Did Neesham get injured again? Thought he did pretty well against Sri Lanka.

No idea how you could heap any of the blame for that loss on the norounders bowling. That match was lost with our top order, that was a chaseable score.

exactly, that's why i started with my concerns about them and why i've been hammering away on your wrong #8 obsession all along. the norounder bowling comment was specific to your sodhi wahhhhh

i would rather sodhi bat at #8 and we're forced to use a bennett, henry or milne (and henry/milne can bat) than run around with 4 bowlers when monster odi batting depends on the top 5.

It's true. There's been a minor obsession with our late order being the problem and but it's needing a bazkrieg opener to partner Guptill, because apparently that's the only way to success, that is setting us up to fail. That was our World Cup '15 plan. It got us to the final but we failed there. We need a better plan. Kane and Stead should create their own, and not use the McHesson blueprint from 4 years ago. Other teams have leapfrogged us and we'll crash out in the semis, at best.

The problem isn’t even only Munro. Guptill, Williamson and Taylor aren’t scoring runs. If they keep failing we are dead in the water.

We just had a #8 score a 50 and give us the most outside of outside shots at a lost game. It’s an important position, if we had more of a platform it could very well have been game winning.

Taylor just had a string of 50+ scores, and was freakishly unlucky to get out tonight - it seemed touch and go/benefit of the doubt on replays. Kane chopped on which is one of the more unlucky ways to go, and was dominating until then. Guptill's had a string of low scores since his 138 but he's among the 3 best NZ ODI bats of all time (the other two bat after him) so I don't think we need to worry there. Form is temporary, class is permanent, etc.

Yes. New Zealand are a stronger side than what a bland look at the score card of this game would suggest.

I think the ICC rankings are fairly indicative: England, India, and then New Zealand/South Africa.

Is it just me but does Kane chop it on alot?
A few of our top order batsmen have played on in the last couple of games. Mostly due to the quality of the bowling of course, but there have been some pretty ordinary attempted shots all right. It's hard to understand why Kane would think playing that shot last night was a good idea, given he'd already blazed a few boundaries during the over. Rush of blood?

Man, this series has been such a let down so far, I was really expecting a cracker. Hopefully NZ come back strong in the next game or India would end up treating the last two games as WC warm ups and any remaining interest will fizzle out.

Our batting looks set for the WC because everyone's scoring but I still wish we had one proper batsman to follow Kohli. Karthik and Jadhav are good for 50 tops, but that wont be enough in case of a collapse.

Why can't we blood Shaw or Gill for the no.4 spot in the coming months? Anyone know how many caps Inzy had before the 92 cup?

Pardon the soliloquy, but he had just seven. Bring on Shaw/Gill I say.

EDIT: Not that he did well at all, now that I look at the scorecards, save for the last two games. Huh, nostalgia.
