2010/11. Looking at the forecast, though, very little chance of that happening againDidn't Mitch Johnson wreck Eng at the WACA only for Aus to be bowled out under 100 at the MCG? Which Ashes was that?

Fourth innings runs being so hard are a big part of why first innings runs are so valuable tbfGreat win for Australia. Paine is winning some hearts here which is nice to see.
To me the key was the 100 run opening partnership in the first innings. For all the talk about how hard fourth innings runs are to score, first innings runs and especially opening partnerships are quite simply more valuable. They keep your opponents playing catch up all the time. We never recovered to even make it a 50-50 once that partnership got going.
Overall, despite the shocking quality of Day 1, this was pretty high quality imo. Kohli's ton was sick, Kohli v Cummins was great, Bumrah was unplayable and Lyon superb.
Definitely wasn’tyeah this is kind of painful to watch in a way
not sure what you expect the 4 tailenders to do. not their job to be fending starc/cummins bouncers with 150 more to get and no batsmen to give them company. would be nice if they stood solidly behind the line and defended 150kph with soft hands but also incredibly dangerous and stupid for guys averaging 7.It really isn't though. Yesterday when the ball was flying around and catching edges the Indian blokes were whooping it up deluxe. If they thought they weren't going to cop it back in spades when their turn came, then it probably reflects the fact they've never come here with a pace attack which could dish it out before.
I was saying it from the players' point of view, in the context of Virat's chest thumping yesterday.Yeah stephen even I found that a bit cringey
Yeah it's all connected. But I was just making the point that tough, high quality runs can be less valuable than flogging crap bowling.Fourth innings runs being so hard are a big part of why first innings runs are so valuable tbf
Oh for sure, but 24 hours ago they gave it out, they have to expect to cop it. Otherwise don't dish it up to numbers 8-11 from the other outfit.not sure what you expect the 4 tailenders to do. not their job to be fending starc/cummins bouncers with 150 more to get and no batsmen to give them company. would be nice if they stood solidly behind the line and defended 150kph with soft hands but also incredibly dangerous and stupid for guys averaging 7.
nothing wrong with australia doing it mind.
I'm sure they all fully expected to cop it. Bit of a non-issue anyways.Oh for sure, but 24 hours ago they gave it out, they have to expect to cop it. Otherwise don't dish it up to numbers 8-11 from the other outfit.
Surprisingly well measured. Strange how he turns into an insufferable prick the moment adrenaline is coursing through his veins."As a team I think we played well in patches which we can hold onto. Australia played much better than us with the bat. 330 on that pitch we felt was a bit too much. They deserved to win. We had the belief we could do it, but they were more relentless and put us in trouble. [Our bowlers] are outstanding as a pack, to see them dominate was really good to see and something we want to build on. They are relentless even if they aren't getting wickets which is a great quality. When we looked at the pitch we didn't think about [Jadeja] but I thought Nathan bowled really well. We never thought we wanted to consider a spinner, thought four fast bowlers would be enough. When you don't win you don't really rank your performances so it's irrelevant because we didn't get the result we wanted. I'm just focused on the next Test. [The catch to dismiss him] It was a decision made on the field and it stays there. Nothing more to it."
McGrath was very similar.Virat just seems a different person off the field these days

He's India's Ponting in many ways. The main difference between the two is that Ponting was a bit more accountable off the field.I'm sure they all fully expected to cop it. Bit of a non-issue anyways.

the meme coach livesLol Langer doing an interview atm and he literally just said said in answer to a question about Handscomb "About the only thing I've asked him is whether he's watching the ball." Six figures a year for that sort of insight.
This is satire right? You just made that up surely.Lol Langer doing an interview atm and he literally just said said in answer to a question about Handscomb "About the only thing I've asked him is whether he's watching the ball." Six figures a year for that sort of insight.
