There is a risk in overdoing the short stuff to the tail, just remember Stuart Broad last year. Slashed at everything like a giraffe on cocaine, nothing remotely convincing but it was effective for a while.

That being said, this lot are all more inept with the willow than Broad is
i mean, broad before he lost his nerve (which was more ishant breaking his nose than anything else) was a legitimately decent batsman, so it's not a fair comparison. it's only after he (understandably) totally lost it that he became a walking wicket for a while.

This is not about getting wickets. This is about making a statement. This is our turf and you shouldn't feel comfortable.

This is fantastic. What a gutless capitulation. It's one thing to get bent over, it's another to give up completely. If you're going to yahoo and carry on when you dish it out, at least have the stones to get behind it when you bat.

I don't think they've given up. The tail is legitimately that terrible.

Pretty sure it was Varun Aaron that brained him, but fair point

Pretty pathetic but with a tail like that I don't know what people were expecting.
honestly it's more the manner of it than anything else. i don't think people would have been surprised with, say, four nicks/bowleds, but not four wickets where the batsmen ended up able to have a conversation with the square leg umpire.

Inflicting some morale-sapping mental damage when the series is in the balance is cringe-worthy?

Making every ball count is important. The victory was assured. Might as well stamp your authority as well.
i mean, it's not you inflicting the mental damage

well played Aus.

Not too bad from India before the final innings capitulation. Should be an interesting series.

That didn't take long. The Indian tailenders are worse than the Pakistani ones. Meanwhile I'm getting worried it is going to rain in Wellington tomorrow.

Well played, Australia. You're winning some fans all over again, cheers.

Gutless in the 4th innings from us. All gains from Adelaide nullified, we're looking down the barrel now.

Australia to win in Melbourne. Jadeja to finally get picked in Sydney - takes wickets, adds strength to the Indian lower order and Australia escapes in a high scoring draw 8 wickets down

Yeah. Explaining the mentality of what's going on is somehow cringe-worthy.

The thing is that the tactics were effective, legal and are going to cause India some mental anguish between tests as they consider their batting lineup and how they approach the next test.

Unless the openers show some spine this series is going to end up like England again. Can't expect Pujara and kohli to keep pulling incredible knocks out of the backsides every game when they're coming in with 12 on the board.
