Tbf Kulasekera likely got selected because he has an outstanding domestic record. Even given how great SL bowling stats tend to be.
Granted Prasad doesn't have the greatest domestic record compared to other Sri Lanka seamers. But no bowlers in Sri Lanka who bowl at that pace have got exceptional domestic records due to the nature of most domestic tracks, which suit medium pacers over fast bowlers.

But if a side is selected purely on domestic stats then likes of Sujeewa de Silva (250 wkts @ 21) would have been selected over Nuwan Kulasekara (196 wkts @ 22). Though both have fairly meh records compared to quite a few other medium pacers. The only reason Nuwan Kulasekara gets selected is due to his uncle's connection in SLC and namely Ranatunga. His selection is as bad as Muburak, it just that he is slightly better then Muburak so it isn't as stupid use of politically power.

Sujeewa's stats suggest that he's less accurate than Kulasekera though. That could be a big reason there. And Kulasekera looks a much better bowler than Mubarak is a batsman. I don't think he will amount to much in Tests, but he looks like he could be quite handy in ODIs, which Mubarak never threatened to do.

Haven't watched the game but that scorecard is looking pretty ominous for India especially the rate at which SL is scoring;if they keep it up they will have a real chance to push for a win despite the rain.

Is there anything going in the pitch? What would be a par score?

Not been impressed by India so far today. Granted there doesn't seem to be anything in the pitch but no real pressure has been applied by us so far. Warnapura looking really solid and not wasting any scoring opportunities. Mahela batted beautifully too.

As said by Dissector, looking ominous for India right now.

EDIT: And overturned. So only 2 reviews left for India.

Yeah, pure waste. What's the point of asking for a review when the initial appeal was so half-hearted ?

****. Karthick drops a regulation catch off Kumble. Life for Mahela. Straight in and out.

Two dropped catches, each of Mahela and Malinda on 55. And then you wonder why Indians don't win much lately. This is a flat pitch, both batsmen are past 50, you've got to take your chances! It does not matter how many matches they've played, one on one, but one dropped catch can cost a match.

While its true that he is India's best bowler overall, I don't think it's necessarily true for the first innings with a 16 over-old ball. It probably wouldn't be the same if someone else were leading, but I don't think its a bad decision.
I may be wrong but I find that he comes on to bowl as the last of the specialist bowlers in almost all the matches where he has led. Invariably the other spinner in the side. mostly Harbhajan. bowls before him. I am not sure that is always justified.

Karthik is having a terrible day behind the stumps. That's two catches dropped off Kumble and there may have been another chance off Sehwag down the leg-side. I have been arguing for him to replace Dhoni in tests but not if he is going to keep like this. These misses are especially costly on a docile pitch with wickets and chances coming few and far between.
