If you look at the pace bowlers we have right now (VRV, Sreesanth, Munaf) it's quite clear that we do have plenty of potential and fire available.
The need for a bowling coach has never been more obvious in the history of mankind.
Didn't they say it won't be possible for India to get a bowling coach anytime soon?

With Nicky Boje announcing his retirement Paul Adams is currently the sole spinner left in the squad. Though South Africa have said that the chances of spinner featuring in the first two test matches was rather unlikely but a spinner for the third test is a must considering the Cape Town wicket. Haroon Lorgat will be discussing the selection of a second spinner on Wednesday, maybe a chance for Thandi Tshabalala or even Tyron Pillay.

Also Lorgat has confirmed that Gibbs and Smith will be opening up come Friday, team should look something like this (injuries/fitness permitting)…

Smith
Gibbs
Kallis
Amla
Prince
AB
Boucher
Pollock
Nel
Steyn
Ntini

Not a bad side, the middle order looks a little shaky, and the tail is a bit on the long side, but I reckon this side should be too good for the Indians. With regards to a spinner, I hope they consider Paul Harris. That guy can bowl, and he hasn't got so much as a look-in, not even for the SA A team. I wouldn't blame him if he went Kolpak (he may have already, I know he played a couple of games for Warwickshire last season).

Tshabalala has more of a chance than Harris, I'll take anything as long as it isn't Robbie P..

Pretty sure Harris is a kolpak.
He is but from SuperCricket...

" Harris, who was the leading first-class wicket-taker in SA last season, is preparaed to unhinge himself from his deal with Warwickshire were he to be offered a national contract."

See they've released Rudolph and Adams, looks like we could see a five-man pace attack.
Or a six man attack if Hall gets the nod over Amla. Ntini, Steyn, Pollock, Nel and Kallis are now guaranteed starters one would think or possibly Dale could be make way for Hall if the South Africans are concerned with the length of their tall. Would be a poor decision though, Steyn has done well since he came back into the fold and on fast bowling graveyards in Sri Lanka performed rather admirably. Talk is India will still go into the test match with two spinners, so we will see later on in the game if South Africa’s policy of sticking all their eggs in one basket will pay off.

Yea, and wouldn't be the smartest thing IMO either. Let's hope VRV Singh can impress.
Looking more and more like VRV will get the nod over Pathan, so this will be a big opportunity for him. Especially if the pitch has pace and bounce.

What's his stamina like, compared to Munaf in the domestic structure? Can he bowl long spells?

Definitely has better stamina than Munaf. He hits the deck quite hard as well, unlike Munaf.
He does have the ability to bowl longer spells but let's see how he holds up in South Africa. Fitness has been an issue in the past but when he's fit he produces good results.

One more final to go. Then the Ashes and India-South Africa for a month non-stop.
