Right, let's nip this tripe in the bud before it goes any further right, sunshine?

I responded to a post where Arjun suggested that Australia wouldn't have walked off if they were going strong - so I reminded him of a situation when they did. No taking the mickey involved - I even went as far as to qualify it further by mentioning that it was a game they had to try to win.

social then chipped in (with smiley) - we have this kind of banter. Forum members who have respect for each other's opinions do that now and again. He knew that I wasn't rubbing his face in it (well, no more than usual) - and I knew that he was having a giggle too.

Your first post on the subject was a bit silly - let's leave it at that.

I then highlighted Jono's post - one that pointed out exactly the same thing that I did regarding taking the light - and referred his comment to you as if to say "You had a rant at me - why didn't you have a rant at Jono?"

As I said, let's leave it at that, eh?

Ah yes, I was expecting this eventually. Let's cover this then and get on with our lives as a whole.

I know exactly what was going on. I also have been lurking for long enough to know "who likes who" and "what goes where", so I need no condescending lectures on this one.

You want to know why I came into a thread I'd previously merely read and not posted in to take a pot-shot at you for a line of conversation you merely expanded upon? Because, as you've surely determined with that beautifully large brain of yours, I enjoy it, and wish to continue enjoying it.

I'm just going to end this here, nothing more needs to be said. Oh, and just to clarify, I wanted England to win the Ashes.

So, anyways, lol @ India.

Good - you know how the Ignore List works then.

Today was the first day of this test when I was free to watch the entire day's play! :-/

Anyway, exactly how much purchase Shoaib and col receive from the pitch tommorow will be interesting to watch. Although the match seems to be heading towards a draw, if pakistan manages to get India out for another 300 runs or so, it will be a good morale booster for them.

Lets keep it to cricket eh

so SJS uncle what are ur predictions for this test series ?
Difficult to say beta. Pakistan has the better (deeper and more balanced) bowling so inspite of India's strong batting line up, I am afraid they may have a slightly better chance of taking the 20 wickets necessary to win a test.

We might see two draws and a result in the third game.

All conjecture I am afraid. :)

Mudassar Nazar had an interesting comment on one of the TV programes this evening. While all the Indian ex-cricketers on the programme were talking about how the wicket turned out totaly different from what Woolmer had suggested a couple of days before and the channel was showing Woolmer's surprise at the 'lifeless' wicket, Mudassar said words to the effect...

It is nonsense for Woolmer and Inzy to express surprise or outrage at the wicket. The wicket has been prepared at their behest and they have stood, virtually on the curator's head and instructed what they want. I suspect that they did not want to take a chance with a greentop and were confident that even on a dead track, the speed of Shoaib and Sami and Shoaib's much vaunted slower ones would do the trick as they did against England. But everytime Shoaib bowled his 'famous' slower one, the Indians, particularly Dravid, read it straight from the time it left the hand and played it effortlessly. I think they miscalculated in thinking the Indian batsmen would fall for it as had the English.

Intersting indeed.

The series 2-0, with SA matching Australia for long periods - how is that such a bad thing?
All 3 tests were slow declaration games where a collapse in one game would decide the whole series.
It happened to SA in the 2nd test. the first was a draw and the last became contrived nonsense.

of course AUS v SA was great in the sense that SA offered some much needed resistance on Australian soil but the cricket was surely not that great. Not if we want to move the game forward, but ok it was certainly better than this first test, which is simply a joke in my opinion.

Compared to the Indian attack ?

Shoaib, Sami, Rana, Kaneria, Afridi and Malik

versus

Pathan, Agarkar, Harbhajan and Kumble

It is deeper with six bowlers against four and more balanced since they have fast bowlers, as well as medium pacers besides three spinners. India has no fast bowlers, only medium paced trundlers.

An insight into Dravid

This excerpt highlights the depth and intelligence of Dravid versus the superficiality and inanity of Ganguly's statements as captain and his petty people politics in the team.

Dravd says pilots have an important job as they are in charge of people's lives. Ditto for surgeons, he says. "Surgeons save lives. Cricketers and movie stars are possibly given overdue importance due to the visible nature of their work. But honestly, there are so many people who are doing so much for the country and so much more needs to be done. Healthcare, education, infrastructure, these are the real issues. Cricket is not everything. It's just a game."

Some people's definition of having the game 'move forward' isn't the same as others.

Whjat do you want - Twenty20 test matches?
