It was interesting to see the Indian debutants.

Dhoni was a revelation. He was always at the right height to take the ball. He moved rather than dived and took the ball in both hands even when it was wide, again a great quality. The ball seemed to land in his hands ever so gently. If I had to find a fault, I would say that initially he appeared a bit flamboyant, tossing the ball to the slips almost at the same instant that it landed in his gloves, a dangerous habit. But he quickly stopped doing that and settled down to a great display. Very impressive and no one had talked of his keeping so far.

Joginder Sharma did not get hit but did not appear to be much of a bowler. Mostly up and down stuff. Maybe one needs to see more.

Sriram, who has played before, got a close decision against him but he did not seem settled while he was there. Hope the team magement will continue with these guys and just rotate the seniors.

Dhoni held on to what he got, but he was not clean. You might have noticed he was slightly jerky in movements, but they stuck. The extra byes conceded as well as problems in collecting throws could be noticed. Still, there's no disaster around the corner, as with Patel or especially Dravid keeping. He needs to score runs in big shots- that's what landed him in the Indian team. He should have been more thoughtful while running that single, though the fielding was quite good.

Sharma got hit for lots of runs in the final 5, which shows up a weakness in these overs with the old ball. Much as a change in plans can keep him bowling in the opening and middle overs, with a fresh, new ball, he needs to change his bowling in the last few overs. He too throws his bat at just about everything, like Dhoni, and must make good use of his hitting ability and convert quick starts into scores of over 50.

Sriram came in very late, and he's a better middle-overs player. Strangely, he was not settled, as he was in Kenya, when he just rotated the strike and hit four-balls when they came to him. The idea of going in with 6 batsmen was not such a good idea. Another problem was the position of the bottom four- who bats where? While Agarkar, Pathan and Harbhajan are equally good- or bad- with the bat, Joginder Sharma's batting was discussed frequently in different groups. Maybe they can bat Dhoni at six and Sharma at 7 in the next match. Dhoni has had quite a lot of success coming in at number 4 in Nairobi.

Some highlights of the Bangladesh innings-

A shot was taken of the stands, and the place was packed. A minor stampede occured, but nothing was reported. Security had their hands full and batons active.

Aftab Ahmed was going strong, getting his 50 and then going on for more runs, looking good. Then an incoming delivery from outside leg, bowled by Murali Karthik went through him and rattled the stumps as he played a wide swipe.

Often considered a weaker element of the Indian attack, left-arm spinner Murali Karthik went for 14 runs in his first over, and was also hit for six later on. He also bowled 5 no-balls, which is becoming a shocking regularity, given he's a spinner. Yet, he actually got 2 wickets for just 43 in 10 overs.

The least regular players in an Indian playing XI, Joginder Sharma, Murali Karthik and Sridharan Sriram, got their full 10 overs. Sharma's second match as a bowler was not as impressive as the first- maybe he's not so good with the old ball. He was getting a lot of movement off the pitch and even got a few edges. He bowled wicket-taking balls, with nobody catching the ball. A good LBW shout was turned down- that was a close call. He tried to bowl short, when he didn't have the pace- and got hit for fours and a six- something more to learn. The sad part is that he's likely to be replaced quickly after the tour, given he's not done anything special, though he's a better choice than two possible replacements. He has a lot to work on in the Challenger series, if he should get ahead of the likes of Nehra and Balaji.

Sridharan Sriram is a frontline batsman, but he's had a godo tournament as a left-arm spinner. He has not gone for too many and in two matches, he has taken 4 wickets. That, coupled with Karthik's 2 wickets in this match, show that the left-arm spinners have been more effective against the Bangladeshis, and even Dinesh Mongia was having them dancing to his tunes.

There were two run-outs in the innings. Both were caused by risks taken against the Indian team's top fielders. First, a direct hit by Yuvraj got rid of Rajin Saleh, and then Kahled Mahmud pushed the ball to Kaif and ran straight ahead- the non-striker was still standing- and Mahmud had to continue running, to the pavilion. Not before glaring at Mashrafe Mortaza.

The Indian team has a serious problem with bowling the final overs. Agarkar, who had a good start with 2 wickets for 16 in his first 7 overs, went for 15 in his last two. Zaheer was in dreadful form as his 8 overs went for 53, but he still got two wickets- one in the final overs. but why was Sehwag not bowled? Whenever he gets 8 overs or more, he gets more than a wicket a match at a good average. It's still a difficult choice when you have 7 bowling options, but part-timers are not the answer- they are the problem. You need at least 5 regular options.

Ganguly out now, what the crap? Required run rate approaching 5.5 per over.

Come on Kaif, get in there and guide us home.

Sheesh.. Please don't let India lose to Bangladesh.. What muppets..
..good practice run for the newbies though, but they all tried to be heros and went for their shots and kaif ran outta partners and ran out himself :D

It was just there, everyone could sense a bangla victory, they really fought hard, bowled tight and are "almost" creating history by winning their 1st ODI at home

Dhaka is gone wild
