Seamers are obviously going to be more effective, but only if they are bowlers!

One would definitely bowl Warne instead of Martyn, but only if Warne is available !
The two opening bowlers had bowled their spells, and in the absence of a third pacer, obviously it is Ganguly who has to take the ball. He has shown many times that he can be relied upon to pick up the odd wicket everytime he comes on to bowl..(eg. Kallis in Kolkata, and didnt he pick some up vs Aus too ?)
If there is something in the pitch that a seamer can exploit, why wouldnt you bowl him ????

I would only bowl him if I was struggling to take wickets, but the pitch looked like it was seeming around (so, either Pathan or Khan bowling bowling crap, or really good batting).

The seaming of the pitch was the reason for bowling Ganguly. Pathan and Zaheer had finished their first spells, and there was no third medium pacer in the team. Kumble and Harbhajan wouldnt have picked up many wickets on a pitch without much bounce, so the only option left was Ganguly (who isnt that bad a seamer as some make him out to be).Pathan and Zaheer werent bowling crap. it was just that they had simultaneously finished their spells.Prince EWS said:

I think Harbhakan and Kumble have more chance of taking a wicket on any surface than Ganguly, unless its in NZ.

I know that, but I still think Harbhajan and Kumble have much more chance of getting wickets than Ganguly.
When he saw the pitch, he obviously knew that it was going to seam, so he if believed that even HIMSELF had more chance than Harbhajan and Kumble, then why not pick an extra fast bowler?
