I won't be surprised if Geoffrey Boycott, who's an in-house expert for a television channel covering the series in India, will complain endlessly about Dhoni's batting technique. Sandeep Patil had a hard time convincing him about Dhoni's batting in the NCA. Not to mention, his wicketkeeping is also the cleanest.
Probably why his First-Class average is unexceptional.
Fotunately, however, First-Class cricket is nothing to do with the leg of the tour he's been picked for. :)
Sriram should walk into an Indian ODI side. He has displayed very good application in Nairobi, as he ran singles off nearly every ball and made up for dot balls with the odd boundary.
Yet his one-day record at domestic and international levels is very ordinary.

Islamic group threaten Indian cricketers

Cricinfo staff

December 5, 2004

A radical Islamic group has given death threats to Indian cricketers if they go ahead with their tour of Bangaldesh.

Shaibal Roy Chowdhury, a spokesman at the high commission, said: "We received a hand written fax letter on Thursday from an Islamic group called Harkat-ul-Zihad, saying that Indian cricketers will be killed if they visit Bangladesh. The Indian high commissioner, Veena Sikri, added that "the Bangladesh foreign ministry has been informed." Cricket authorities in both Indian and Bangladesh have been told and the Bangladesh board have asked security to be tightened.

India are scheduled to play three one-day internationals and two Tests in Bangladesh. They are set to set off on Tuesday, December 7 and the first Test, at Dhaka, begins on Thursday.

As a result the flight gets put back 24 hours... which means they'd arrive in a country and play a Test next day.
If it weren't Bangladesh that could be a serious problem.

He has changed his batting position (4/5/6) and his style of batting in mid-2002. He now pinches singles and pierces gaps to keep up a good strike rate. He has displayed a lot more application and big-innings temperament than some of the players who have played for India recently, and is quite good at building partnerships. If you look at his performance in the last three years, his average has been as high as 46, a lot higher than when he was that defensive opener in the past.
Neither is the Pak vs. Aus one. I guess there are already too many?
AUS v/s PAK will start after AUS v/s NZ, but that England in NAM and ZIM thread is still stuck! Luckily, they dropped the SA in IND thread recently.

Didnt know England were in Nam..I know the Yanks lost there....tough place to win, really dodgy pitches (damned landmines)..maybe its coz they sent the 'A-Team' there :D

Let me guess...if not NAM, maybe they were having a much better time in NMB?

Does the Indian captain have cold feet? Gagandeep and Paul DEFINITELY deserve a place in the Indian side, for this series. Other teams have their fringe players leading the attack when they play Bangladesh, and those bowlers often perform better than their illustrious counterparts. Moreover, the main bowling lineup needs some rest before the crucial Pakistan series, because the likelihood of burnout is very high, given how much they have bowled so far.

This should be a launch-pad for fringe players to prove themselves, otherwise they may never get a chance. Instead, it's just a lifeline for strugglers to porve something, which means NOTHING in a broader picture. In fact, EVERY international team can get the better of Zaheer, Pathan, Harbhajan and Kumble these days, so the possibility of a drawn series may even pop up!

I'm glad to hear it.

Can't have too many stickies AFAIK.
Both this and Aus-Pak should be topped ASAP.

Only series actually going on are stickied - I think there's a change due in the next few minutes to correct this.

Pak v Aus should definitely not be stickied yet, as Aus are still in a series vs NZ.

So why don't we have the whole ICC 10 year plan stickied then?

With the other non-series threads that are stickied, the current method is spot on.

It's not just the internationals, though - as soon as the tour is taking place (and interntionals are NOT all there is to a tour, remember?) surely the thread should be stickied?

India go in with a full strength squad really. I would've liked to have seen Gagandeep Singh given a go, same with Murali Kartik. But I guess the positive thing is that Kumble should go past Kapil Dev's 434 wickets.
