India 211/5 now and partnership 36. Ramesh on 82 and Patel on 11. Pretty good recovery after being 45/3 at one stage.

Just came back home from the Vics v India game, best $5.00 i ever spent.

It was a good entertaining day, with Sachin Tendulkar playing quite brilliantly. Dissapointed with Dravid, Ganguly and Chopra.

All in all, a good family day out.

some comments on the IND v VIC game

Opening Day:

1) Poor application from many of the Indian batsmen --
I'm just not convinced that Sehwag can be a test match player let alone a test opener.
He's shows little judicousness in his shot selection.
2) Tendulkar played well but he threw away his wicket -- he should have got a century to boost his confidence ahed of the test.
3) Ramesh made a solid 87 -- like Tendulkar should have gone to make a hundred -- that would have strengthened his case for a recall. But his knock will definitely increase the pressure on Chopra and Sehwag to perform.
4) I'm glad to see Parthiv make a fighting half century -- I've been a big backer of Parthiv's talent. I think he has a pretty solid technique and could develop into one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the world in the medium term.

The Victorians bowled OK -- I didn't think their attack was overly threatening -- Inness was quite impressive but the others were about par.
There is certainly a fair bit of bounce in this wicket -- India's seamers need to bowl well tomorrow to get them back into this game.

Im interested to see that Inness has only played 17 OD's with a bowling average of 50+...for a player with such a good FC bowling average, that seems a little strange..anyone know anything more about this?
Fitness has been the main problem , he just didnt start his OD arear very well & the Bushrangers have always had alot of depth in their fast bowling stocks , he's been competing against Lewis , Harwood , Hewitt & Wise (all of whom have better OD records than him) & up until the last ouple of years he also had Fleming & Reifell there.

He just gets pigeon holed a bit as a FC only player , although they've been sticking with him this year.

Very impressed with Parthiv Patel, there's no chance for Dasgupta at the moment to get in. The Victorian's didn't bowl particularly well (maybe with the exception of Inness), but they aren't a joke attack. It was very smart how he played himself in. His strike rate hung in the 20s for a while, moved up into the 30s and finished the day in the high 40s, which shows he has come with the right temperament.

Any word on the Australian squad for the first test?

Well you'd think Williams & Bracken are likely to make the 1st test team considering McGrath is definately out for the first 2 tests & Lee will be struggling to make the 1st test.

I'd like to see Bracken play. He's not got a great FC record but he seems to have taken his game up a notch lately and his left arm is a bit of variety.

Although neither have been anounced yet , I'd be 95% sure of what both lineups are going to look like for Brisbane.
Predicted sides-
Australia
1.J.L.Langer
2.M.L.Hayden
3.R.T.Ponting
4.D.R.Martyn
5.*S.R.Waugh
6.S.M.Katich
7.+A.C.Gilchrist
8.A.J.Bichel
9.J.N.Gillespie
10.S.C.G.MacGill
11.B.A.Williams
12th man.N.W.Bracken

Really the only debate there is Bracken or Williams , they picked Williams last time & he hasnt done anything wrong in the meantime so I rekon they'll go for him

India
1.V.Sehwag
2.A.Chopra
3.R.Dravid
4.S.Tendulkar
5.V.Laxman
6.*S.Ganguly
7.+P.Patel
8.A.Agarkar
9.H.Singh
10.Z.Khan
11.A.Nehra
12th man.L Balaji

Again there's only one real point of conjeture , who will open with Sehwag , despite Ramesh's early form I reckon they'll stick with Chopra , they were full of praise for him after the NZ series & I dont see things turning around so quickly.

Unfortunately I agree with your prediction.

What's with the selectors? They say when they'll announce the squads for home series and then they never do.

I'm 6ft 3".

I fully expect Ramesh to play in the first Test. I know it's still very early in the tour, but CricInfo seems to suggest that he's coped nicely with the conditions.

I also tip Sachin to get a big hundred.
Mate dont you ever sleep?

Because it is must be getting into the wee hours of Trinidad?

I sleep. But only for 5 to 6 hours. I'm a very busy person.

Rik stays up longer.
But doesn't have to get up so early in the morning ;)

I assume the Australian *selectors* are having trouble *selecting*. If they said they would do it today, there must be a reason why they haven't. I guess that is because they are trying to decide between certain players. Whether that be Williams/Bracken or Katich/Love(/Clarke). If it's Katich/Love then I'll stick with Katich, but all of a sudden Clarke's name isn't being mentioned as even remotely potential to make the squad by anyone (except the smart people at the BBC).
Maybe they're having trouble picking the bowlers AND the batsmen. Williams and Bracken are a two way tie for mine. Bracken is in better form but Williams is the incumbent, and supposedly a better long-version bowler. No selector would want egg on their face and potentially expose themselves to vitriolic scorn from David Hookes about the whole Bracken/Inness thing again if Bracken played (badly).

I'm glad I'm not a selector, but if I was then Katich would be out the door.

No-one has any comments about Dravid's 21 ball globe, or Cameron White's 4-59??
There were a couple of comments about Dravid's long walk back. Re: White - Ramesh, Harbhajan, Balaji, Khan. He may have bowled well, but I wouldn't go singing his praises yet.
