I think this is too much positiveness.:( :( India could have batted another 20 overs so that can ensure they r not falilng; but now there is a 50% chance of failing even after dominating in the match....

Excellent work by Katich and Gillespie in the morning session. They threw Indian plans off completely.

Dravid and Tendulkar batted extremely well to get to 211 at 4.86/over, despite the defensive fields set by Waugh. They scored at more than 6/over for the last 10-12 overs. I can't believe how well Dravid played his strokes. It's almost as if he had 100% control of the proceedings out there.

What's more unbelievable for me is that Ganguly has declared without having really batted the Aussies out of the game. 440 odd at 4.71 is achievable by this pack of Aussie batsmen intent on giving Waugh a successful farewell but it will definitely be tough with Kumble bowling on a Day 5 SCG pitch. Aussies will probably go for the target so we've got a hell of a day on our hands tomorrow.

This has been one of the best series' I have ever witnessed and there's no better way to decide the winner than a tough duel on the last day of the last match.

Ok I'm in with Australia winning, except it will more likely end up a draw obviously. The Aussies will go for it, but wont throw their wickets away. Still, Ill say they will win, for competitions sake.:)

If it is a draw, are all bets off? Or will we be putting up English flags or something...:O :P

I saw Sachin in full folw today. The simple leg-glance on a swinging yorker at 145 km/hr with perfect foot work revealed in what form he is.Both he &Dravid played as if it's a club-match.. Austrlia's bowling was verymuch negative on day2 and today, eventhen Idia scored 5 runs per over... We ll done India

One can say,India vitrtually decided the result of the match( and thus the serieswinner).Australia couldn't do much on Indian batting and they had to wait for Indian declaration on both innings. So even if AUs wins, it can be said as a victory awarded by India. This is a great achievement by India and one can realize it from the first few pages in the same thread(the funniest messages in this forum.. :D :D)
BTW, marc, I overtook u and I'm the topscorer now in this thread :D :D

I think Australia will give it a red hot go tomorrow. Don't expect to much too early. They will play it session by session. If they have about 200 to win in the last session with wickets in hand they will really go for it to try to win. Thats only about 7 an over for 30 overs. Thats the way they generally play in the Pura cup. Can you imagine this fairy tale - Australia needs 4 to win off the last over with 1 wicket in hand and Waugh slog sweeps Kumble for 6 to win.

Dravid and Tendulkar batted fantastically today - really showed all their class and made Lee and MacGill look like little boys playing men.

Congrats to Ganguly for his declaration - it gives us a fascinating days cricket to look forward to. Test cricket has come a long way - 5 years ago this run chase would seem all but impossible.

My prediction - Australia to win by 3 wickets.

If it is a draw everyone is safe

I have to ask- Should the spinners- Kumble, Karthik and the part-timers, be used more often than Agarkar and Pathan? I don't expect much out of these 2- one is under-powered, the other is raw. Perhaps if Kumble gets more overs, they have a chance, but they will have to get Hayden, Ponting and especially Gilchrist out quickly.

Why the Indians had to declare is a mystery. They should have batted the whole last session and set the Australians a target of 500- they were not capable of winning this match, going by the way they bowled today, or even saving it, if they gave the Australians so much to score in so much time.

What a test match, what a series!!!

India are in one of the strongest positions imaginable really. And deservedly, I think they have been the better team in this match and genuinely deserve to win.

The pitch will be very tough to bat on, and Kumble and to a lesser extent Kartik should be licking their lips at the prospect of bowling on an absolute turner of a wicket.

Tendulkar too should be utilised, as he has bowled quite well in the series. Pathan looks solid, and Agarkar is bowling quite well too.

However, one can never discount the World Champions. They keep coming at you, and with Hayden, Ponting, Langer, Gilchrist, Martyn and Steve Waugh, these guys are often unstoppable.

I will only breathe easier after India is on the right side of the result at around 6:30 pm Sydney/Melbourne time!

What will happen to the thread after tommorrow? Close or kept for some more days? :( :(
It won't be closed (unless there are 'other reasons' - but a few days after the series ends, it will be 'un-topped' and it will die a natural death (probably in about September 2006).

hehe i think Tendulkar should bowl more overs than Kartick - every player in Australia seems to have worked him out, Clarke in the Aus A game, than Hayden and Langer, than Katich and now Gillespie :)

Hmmm... Karthik should not get too much, but then, things can change. Anyway, some of the more successful bowlers against the Australians have been Ashley Giles, Mohammed Rafique (to some extent) and Raymond Price. That makes Karthik a good choice in the VB Series.

I doubt if it's safe to even bowl Pathan in this innings. Agarkar, probably, since he has had some success, but he's become the Australians' latest target, so he too is in danger.

If they could bowl Kumble at both ends they would. Whats the record for the number of overs a bowler has bowled in a day's play. I think Kumble will give it a shake tomorrow.:P

I think it's going to be a case of using Kumble as much as possible - he's probably going to be bowling 35-40 overs in the day. At the other end, a case of rotating AA, Pathan, Ganguly, Tendulkar etc - I don't see Kartik getting much of an opportunity unless it starts turning off the wicket as opposed to out of the foot-holes.

Tomorrow just might be one of those days. I can remember EXACTLY what I was doing when Kennedy was shot, when Armstrong walked on the moon, when Sobers hit 36, when Dev destroyed South Africa. Some things stick in the mind.

Which question will be asked, though?

"Where were you when the convicts made 443 to win having conceded over 700 in the first innings?"

or

"Where were you when Kumble took 18 in the match?"

Then again, it might rain all day.

just a date I picked out of the air as easily as AA's catch to end the Aussie first innings.

It's been great having you on the boards too in this, one of the greatest test series of all time (from a batting perspective, anyway)

Just as Boycott said(in Star sports), India is having only one Kumble and the rest is pretty ordinary bowling. So 442 is not a difficult task.
I don't know how did Saurav come to a conclusion that Kumble can do well always.. :( :!(

I personally couldnt believe Ganguly's tatics to Katich, it was like saying "I dont know how to get you out and I dont think I can".

Bugger giving a cheap single. As a batsman you wont get cheap runs (any bowler who has a brain wont) so why as a captain give them away.
