*Official* India in Australia Thread

I dont think so, 250 lead, wearing pitch. 4 and a half sessions to go. India massive favorites, but by the looks of it they're gonna bat again which i for one cant BELIEVE. You cant have a lead of 250 and not force them to follow on with such a short time left in the match :(. Could be a big mistake in my opinion.

No follow-on?!

I think I'm going to faint...:O

I wonder what they have in mind...since Ganguly is the Indian captain and I'm not, he should know better than me...my God! I'd like to know what he's thinking.. :(

Is he giving Australia a go at the win? Because if Australia follow-on, there's NO way they can win...now they possibly can...

That's right krKode, there were no chance of an OZ(or less porbabale) win if they had done the follow on. but now, if India is allout within 200, OZ is going to win.... But i think Saurav needs his guys to get some rest...
Anyway it's not a negative tactics.. all the best Saurav & co

Rest seems a reasonable reason, but they've hardly been bowling a whole day...I can understand Kumble's need for rest, but he could've rested Kumble until like the 20th over of the innings.

Oh well, I guess he is being the sportsman after all. I would think India bat to the end of today and give Australia all of tomorrow. Hopefully they can add another 200 or 250 to that lead. 450+ should be a tough total to chase...

I think i know that he is doing.
If Australia have no chance at winning the game they will just play defensivly for a day and go for the draw, and Indias bowling attack isnt good enough to bowl them out if they do that.
But if they set Australia a target of say..450 in a day. That will give australia a target which im sure they will go for. So although you have a chance of losing the game you have a hell of a lot more chance of bowling them out if they are playing more positivly.

Although i dont agree with that style as they should have enforced the follow on imo. :O

In my opinion, Ganguly not enforcing the follow-on is the best thing that could have happened for Australia - I could not believe some of the commentators' remarks that Waugh should consider declaring before the target was reached. When we folded after Katich's dismissal, I was mortified, but relieved when I found that India were going to bat again. In some respects I can see why he did it - they've relied on Kumble to such an extent that Ganguly would have to be concerned at how well he'll cope with such an enormous workload. On the other hand, it would seem kinda a shame for India to have done so well here, and yet, not to add to their dismal record of away wins over the last 16 years or so.

Under the follow-on, there was no chance of Australia winning. Now, there's some, although I think the most likely result is we eke out a draw.

You have to feel sorry for Brett Lee. What a bizarre instant replay of the first innings - wicket off a no-ball, and a couple of balls later, a regulation catch dropped.

I wonder if the crowd will boo Ponting for "not trying hard enough".

Its actually quite fun to watch the Aussies kinda self destruct instead of England, they are only human after all :)

I just dont see why Lee doesnt just put his marker back JUST 2-3 inches. Its not gonna make THAT much difference to his bowling surely? and he'd have a few more wickets to his name too.

I feel so sorry for Lee, he's not that bad of a bowler, I'mean naturally he's gonna give away more runs now, the slips haven't backed him up at all. look at no. of catches Australia has dropped!! they need to learn something from Agarkar and Sehwag's fielding on this tour.

The problem with Lee is that he's more of an ODI bowler, pwc rates him even higher than Akhtar in ODI cricket, infact I think Lee even got the most wkts in the World cup 22! I think Vaas got 23 though. Lee has not been exposed to real test cricket, he has performed always under the guidance of the Enforcer aka Glenn McGrath..this is the only the third test that Lee is spearheading..My point being I'm sure Lee will do well in the VB series - he's more of an ODI bowler!

The same goes for Zaheer Khan, in the NZ series two months ago, you could clearly sense that Srinath has bin missed!

seems to me world cricket doesn't have many top fast bowlers in the game at present, its a batsmans era!!

I appreciate Hayden's honesty in such a situation, good work by him!

It's a really scary feeling, to have your mortality stare you in the fact like that. Outside of the last Indian tour (which in many ways, was closer than this series, in spite of the fact that the result may well end up 1 all), the majority of the Aussies' down moments have occurred in dead rubbers.

There's also a realisation here that over much of this period of dominance, our bowlers have been what has set us apart from the rest of the world, and without McGrath and Warne, we suddenly look back with the rest of the pack again. There's a weird combination of hysteria (the dropped catches, Lee's no-balls, etc) and listlessness about us in the field in this series, and I think they're having trouble believing how bad things have gotten.

Reminds me of when we finally took out the West Indies in the Caribbean. The panic and denial of the West Indians was tangible - I still remember Richie Richardson's near tearful blabbering that the Aussie team that won the series was the worst he'd ever played against.

The thing is no other team has experienced that kind of immortality. We wouldn't know :P
