Not sure why he was ever given a two year contract tbh, he was obviously only ever going to last until the end of this season.

Yeah, would be an excellent piece of business for mine. Even if he doesn't make the grade his resale value will be pretty significant.

One imagines Sociedad would hold out for a much higher amount before accepting a bid from anyone else tbh. Sounds like Vela is very keen on a return to London as well.

Why? Sounds like Arsenal have already triggered £3.3m clause so you'd think Sociedad would try and get as much as they could. They're not in a great bargaining position because if they don't agree a deal with any other club he goes for a pittance.

Depends if he's determined to leave Sociedad at all costs or just determined to join Arsenal tbh.

If he's made it clear he wants out of the club and will be leaving no matter what I'd agree with you.

But if he fails to agree terms with Arsenal then why would you want to give him a route out of the club on the cheap?

Hoping he fails to agree odds is just far too risky though, particularly as he's already said he'd leave if Arsenal triggered it. Sociedad would gauge situation, and given he's very unlikely to disagree too much with what Arsenal offer, they'd look for alternative. I don't think agreeing a fee with Sociedad would present too much of a problem for any other club given his true value is probably closer to £15m+ and he'd be available for maybe half that at most, to everyone but Arsenal.

The issue is with Vela. I reckon it'll essentially come down to his choice. Must seem to think it's only Arsenal that have a chance but I think Vela will just choose his favourite option. Sounds like Arsenal have the best chance at that, but I'd be amazed if that were his only option (aside from staying at Sociedad).

Is it much of a risk though? If he goes it'll be for a fee well below his actual value, regardless of who he goes to. By rejecting other bids the only thing at stake will be whatever the difference is between Arsenal's £3m release clause offer, and a (possibly) slightly higher bid from someone else. Unless I got the feeling that his heart was more or less exclusively set on rejoining Arsenal it's a risk I would take if I were Sociedad.
