Yet to be determined really. Could end up a Ferdinand/Rooney type signing where you have a top class mainstay for years. Then, it'll look like peanuts. That Shaw bid is utter madness IMO.
You realise Southampton are now a well established, Premier League club with a rich owner, not a cash strapped Championship/League One club, don't you?It won't actually be £27m cash. Southampton will get ****ed over like they do whenever they sell a young player, and it'll be £5-10m + ludicrous clauses, especially when you consider that it's United that are doing the buying, so it won't end up costing them a lot if he does flop.
Yeah, and interesting what Ikki said comparing him to Shaw. I do remember there being utter ridicule for Leeds, then United for buying him back then. I think for a world-record for a defender. Worked okay. Lampards transfer was probably even more ripped apart.Rio's gone from Utd then.
Oh, I know hence saying it's pointless, if it happens we'll know in about 10 years. I think it looks silly, but what do I know?Yeah you never know and there is certainly the potential for £27m to be money very well spent if he does move to United.
This logic could be used to justify the transfer of any young player though. Obviously with hindsight there are a few that have turned out to be good but that doesn't mean this one will be.
Utter madness might have been overstating it tbf. Shaw has been, especially by the standards of an 18 year old, very impressive. I don't think he has been anywhere near £27m impressive though and I can't help but feel that if he wasn't English we would be looking at a price nowhere near that.
Only because the rest of the world would value him at a fraction of that figure and pay commensurate wagesI think it's a decent signing, reasonable price considering his potential. We should be willing to pay more for young English players, because they won't just move to Madrid or Barca if they get any good.
Costa for 32m would be better though, even allowing for the fact that we need a LB more. He's a good enough player that you buy him if and when you can.
What the hell are you talking about social?[/QUOT
Mate, it's pretty bloody simple
Any team outside England could buy a better player for less
Stating that he is worth the money because he wont go abroad is nonsense
Fact is that he wont get offered the same money so will stay home
