dropping the ball into the goal against Spurs after Poyet cracked one at him from about 30 yards out.
Yep, that's my most vivid memory of Wright in an Arsenal shirt (or any shirt for that matter), not the way to get hero status among the Highbury faithful.

EDIT: Honourable mention to Glen Helder as well, who was also crap.
Ha ha yeah, can't believe I forgot him.

Stephan Schwarz, Remi Garde, Stephan Malz, Nelson Vivas, Davor Suker and John Jensen (I saw him score once ) are all players, who though were not all crap, are often forgotten when I try and recall Arsenal players of old, I really struggle to recall a time when I saw any of them play in any significant match. Though I do remember John Jensens goal, and that Schwarz was actually quite decent.

I was thinking before of Malz, Vivas and Garde but all seemed to belong to the category of "staggeringly mediocre" rather than "embarrassingly bad" - and Davor Suker is a flat out champion for whom an underwhelming season or two late in his career can be forgiven.

Oleg Luzhny?
Have a lot of time for him tbh, though he did on occasion look really dodgy, he really came up trumps when it mattered. When he had to play as a centre back in the FA Cup final against Southampton he was absolutely rock solid, very dependable back up type player who could do a job right across the defense.

Edit: That reminds me of Lauren, another I had forgotten about. Quite a reasonable player, but always struck me as being a bit of an idiot, some of his tackles were absolutely horrible and he seemed to get sent off a lot, but he wasn't a bad player and contributed several important goals. His one in teh FA Cup game against Chelsea was particulary good.

Of course if we go back to the '80s we have possibly the worst of all:

Ladies and Gentlemen, the one and only Gus Caesar.

Haha, living proof that playing a crucial game without telling anyone that you are carrying a hernia and an ankle injury is a great idea.

I certainly wouldn't have sent him off.

It wasn't a goal scoring opportunity as it was too wide and there was a line of defence stood ready, Owen gave him a shove and Carragher then decided to hold onto Owen, a little bit handbags and a yellow was about right.
My thought was he was running too wide for it to be classed a clear opportunity, so yellow was correct.

Still, a bit of controversy over decisions means Taggart's blunders don't get the blame they deserve.

And deservedly so. It's no secret that Liverpool play 3 centre midfielders so selecting Carrick and Scholes to combat the 3 was inviting them to boss the midfield.

Seriously kidding ourselves if we think this bunch of fannies is going to win the league. After the Alkmaar game Arsene said we needed to learn some lessons on not taking our foot off the gas when leading and lo and behold the very next game we do it even more spectacularly. Chris Foy is a horrible ****, but there's no excusing the performance we put in the second half today.

Thing with Davor Suker is he was signed immediately after WC 98 where he was a flat out gun (golden boot iirc) and then got old the very instant actually got to Arsenal.

Couldn't agree more - in what was always going to be a cup final atmosphere against a desperate and wounded team, that was an astonishing selection. I seriously couldn't believe it when I saw Scholesy starting.

A poster on teamtalk put it best when he said Scholes now is reminding him of Ali in his last few fights, getting embarrassed by blokes who wouldn't have deserved to be in the same arena as him a few years previously.

Pahars was a legend though, WAG he is. Pretty much single handedly saved Southampton from relegation in 1998 or 1999 or whenever it was.
Trying to work out what division Southampton would be in without Matt le Tissier, about League One?

Ahh...

Pahars is such a cult hero. Everyone loves him.

Are you sure? Pretty positive he signed for Arsenal in '99.

His goal scoring record for us wasn't bad but he just looked very very off the pace once he hit English football. His class was undeniable though, although he did miss that penalty in the UEFA Cup Final (gah the pain the pain).

On current matters though, Almunia must be in the doghouse for him to not be picked while Mannone still looks very out of his depth. Can only imagine Fabianski will be our new custodian when he gets fit again (good god almighty we need a keeper).
