BARNES OUT
With SWP out for the next 3 you'd imagine Elano will start unless Bojinov is back to full-fitness, which I don't think is for a few weeks yet.

Don't mind him on the bench in the last few matches because he's had in-form players in front of him, but when Vassell was starting central midfield ahead of him I wasn't happy.

If you get a chance, make sure you get to see Robinho's goal against Italy, defender (not sure who it was?) had nothing.
Nicola Legrottaglie? I didn't see the match but I know he was responsible for Elano's goal, not sure for Robinho.

BARNES OUT
Pirlo gave the ball up way too cheaply then Robinho step-overed his way through Zambrotta before shooting accross the face of Buffon into the far corner.

It was the little back-heel at the end of the step-overs that made the move imo, such good footwork.

Joe Kinnear is set to have heart surgery on Friday, so I guess Newcastle are now on the hunt for a new manager. Space cadet, Tony Adams is now unemployed so he would be a good choice.

The Spain England kick-off is taking the piss, isn’t it? 5.00am Chinese time according to my stream guide…

Nah, disagree. Think they'd be great, myself. Certainly make yellows more meaningful and the team that the foul was committed against would directly benefit rather than some random team down the line when the offenders has accumulated enough for a ban.
Surely though the idea of a player receiving a yellow is that his offence doesn't warrant him leaving the pitch? I absolutely resent the prospect of Ryan Shotton leaving the field for X minutes because he mistimed a tackle by half a second, or did some innocuous thing that we see players get booked for.

You could argue also that often the team that a red card offence is committed against doesn't benefit from it and that it's others that do. I've seen a high proportion of reds at PP fall in the last ten minutes.

Not necessarily. Yellows are actualy pretty flabbily defined currently; occupying as they do some indeterminate hinterland between a foul and a permanent dismissal. A sin-bin would give then a proper status.

If sin-binnings encourage either refs to be less card happy or players to go in late less often it's for the good, surely?

I think they should have both, ideally. The sin-bin can be for those incidents where one team is about to launch a counter-attack and the other team's captain just deliberately trips someone up and kills the move. A yellow isn't anywhere near enough for those incidents.

The problem with sin-bins is a team like the CDMs will just dive around like fairies all game and be up against 9-10 men most of the match.

Well, I don't necessarily think that refs would become less card happy for one. Additonally, is players going in late less often necessarily for the good of the game? Hear me out. I'm not advocating dirty play, far from it. But I'd argue that 90% of bookings for late challenges were not intentional fouls, simply mistimed. If players fear leaving the pitch if they make an error of judgement like that, they won't go in for tackles and suddenly Aaron Lennon will be the best player in the world.

Have to agree, though, that the worst kind of tackle is the one when a team is counter-attacking and get tripped in their own half. But I wouldn't sin bin them - straight red IMO, it's actually worse than when it happens when a player is one on one in the box.

In a word: yes. Anything which might lead to fewer fouls is, for me.

If a defender thinks he can't legitimately tackle an attacker so chooses not to lunge in then I personally don't think the game is losing much.

If an English player puts his foot up = foul
If anyone else puts their foot up = not a foul

Always thought that was a strange rule.
