Expected Portsmouth to do decent but not this well. Surely quietens the relegation bug but midtable is most likely. Redknapp is a man who knows how to spend money.
Allegedly likes a 'bung' as well but doesn’t every Premiership manager?

I see the West Ham two, start on the bench.

Well I always thought it would be hard for them to get into the side ahead of Haydn Mullins and Bobby Zamora.

Amazing talent to be able to bring on though, should spur on Mullins + Zamora knowing they could easily be coming off if they don't do well.

Well Zamora scores, thats 5 this year I think, and everyone rubbish.

Still hes putting them in the onion bag, or whatever.

Wheres the new Ricky and Ossie, ?

Great clearance by Mears.

Bit of an anti-climax, Carlos kickaball showed some nice touches, big work-rate, and technically brilliant.

We'll have to wait and see what effect he'll have on the Irons.

They're already looking better then Arsenal, but thats not saying much:laugh:

What d'you mean? Arsenal are second in the league, thanks to the coaching of Tony Adams, the defensive solidity of Sol Campbell and the goalscoring of Kanu.

Oh, wait.......:D

Will be interesting to see how he does against Palermo in the UEFA after today's introduction to English football. The Italian style of game should be more to his liking.

I was thinking more along the lines of that one good game and suddenly he gets branded about for a spot in the England squad.

Give me a break please.
It's not just one good game. He's scored four goals so far.

People seem to be convinced that Johnsen isnt good and i dont really see why. He scored a lot of goals in a team that was relegated and even if a lot of them were penalties it was impressive. He has decnet pace and is a good finisher. International class? maybe not but no need to write him off

no i completely agree, his goals have shown that he is a clever player, the goal against spurs i thought to be particularly impressive.

TBF to Johnson I thought he looked more like an international player in the few minutes he got v Andorra & Macedonia than Defoe did.

He's still fairly young too, so can improve; I think his tragic youthful hair loss scenario makes people think he's older than he is.

Half of his goals at Palace were penalties...

Last season he scored as many goals as McSheffrey did, and McSheffrey was playing left wing.

He was injured for part of last season. You cant deny that scoring as many goals as he did for a side that was relegated is impressive and players like , Shearer and Van Nistrlooy who were righly heralded as great goal scoers also got a decent amount of them from penalties . Did any of Sunderland, Birmingham or West Broms Strikers score many goals last season? People seem unfairly set against him. Especialy if you consider Englands other striking options in the absence of Owen and Rooney

10 goals from open play isn't that many though is it?

In their pomp neither RVN or Shearer got 10odd penalties in a season, they're 20+ tallies came from being proper strikers.

proper stikers in teams that create a lot of chances. Im not saying that Johnsen is as good as those two but he is clearly a good goal scorer and therefore why discount him from England selection when Owen and Rooney are not avalaible?

I disagree. It was a fantastic day. Nothing better than Liverpool losing, especially if it's to one of "my" teams (read Everton, as Wigan and the Jags won't do it too much).
The closest Gerrard will ever get to the League title.
