Cole/Downing is obvious and will happen when Cole is fit.

Lennon for Lampard. Lennon is a wide player, but i guess you'd want a shift with Gerrard going more central. Not sure is Lennon is best suited to playing an entire match tbh. Think he'd work best as he has been used, coming on around the hour mark to really shaft the tired full back.
Mclaren likes the system with one attacking winger, and one more central-player on the other side, the systems got a poncey name, but I've forgotten it. Its why he would never start with Lennon and Downing.

So this would fit into his dogmatic little system.

Heres the new boss, same as the old boss.

yep, he must be sick of Big Ashley Cole, i think Bridge should seriously consider his options of playing as a left-side mid-fielder also. I think Downing is a great talent but not to sure if he is fully international quality as yet, Bridge could be a good option there as well.
If Bridge decides to become a LM as well as a LB, he'll have to be another Cole to be behind in the pecking order.

So what if we've won the first 2 games?

It was hardly likely to ever be a challenge, and the reason I said about Joe Cole is because surprise surprise, Downing was useless again.

it was depressingly svenesque when we went one up, hopeful punts out of defence aimed for a 4ft6 striker because the other one was playing as an auxillary midfielder
I did say nothing had changed...

You watched fifteen minutes of a ninety minute game. Hardly another time to suggest that Lampard was not one of the worst players on show..
Especially bearing in mind he was substituted halfway through that period.

Joe Cole and Aaron Lennon in, Lump and Downing out for me.
I wouldn't want to have Lennon playing 90 just yet, don't think he'd be as effective as he is coming on for the last half an hour owing to stamina.

Then maybe we'd make a bit of progress. Never liked Defoe either, but he does have some talent in front of goal.
Yes, I think its now 3 goals in 20 games (and 2 of them were against Andorra)

Which was why England dropped points and generally struggled against Macedonia before then eh. Downing got a few dangerous balls in, kept the shape and tracked back. Average ignorant football fans like yourself automatically think a winger having a quiet game is being 'useless' - but that's the nature of being a proper winger most of the time, you hardly get the ball and a chance to shine unless the team specifically decide to attack down your one flank. The other exception being if you decide you getting in the game more often is more important than the team functioning properly - like Beckham over the last few years and Joe Cole.

Joe Cole >>>>> Downing. Of this there is no question.

Wish I had a pound for every time I heard "Unfortunately due to contractual obligations, we can't bring you the event that's live on air"

Useless tossers BBC.
I know how you feel.

ESPN are too tight **** to show the France v Italy game. Then again they didn't bother about the Italian Super Cup, or the big matchews there, must be living in some 1980's sterotype of Serie A 8-)

Another Briton Roger Hammond is set to sign up.
He looked good as well. Was sprinting as fast as Boonen on the last stage just couldn't get in front of him for the stage win.

As has been said repeatedly that's irrelevant because we're on about their abilities to play on the left side of midfield for which Downing >>> Joe Cole.

Why not try Joe Cole on the right and Stewart Downing on the left in England's next pointless friendly? I mean if you are going to make random selections, and play centre backs as holding midfielders, you may as well do that as well.
