International Coach
Curbishley appointed at West Ham today.

My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw this headline in the Telegraph:

"Curbishley ready to take West Ham job for £2m salary"

Mclaren has interest in Barton, good stuff more Manchester blokes in the team the better.
He also made a point that he has about 50 players penciled down that he feels should be around the squad with EURO 2008 qualifiers & Championship coming up, i'll have a go at what i think that should look like:

GOAL-KEEPERS:

1. Paul Robinson
2. Chris Kirkland
3. Robert Green
4. Ben Foster
5. Scott Carson

DEFENDERS:

6. John Terry
7. Rio Ferdinand
8. Ashley Cole
9. Gary Neville
10. Ledley King
11. Johnaton Woodgate
12. Jamie Carragher
13. Micah Richards
14. Wayne Bridge
15. Leighton Baines
16. Matthew Dawson
17. Wes Brown
18. Glen Johnson
19. Paul Konchesky
20. Steve Taylor
21. Luke Young

MID-FIELDERS:

22. Steven Gerrard
23. Frank Lampard
24. Owen Hargreaves
25. Joe Cole
26. Aaron Lennon
27. Scott Parker
28. Michael Carrick
29. Gareth Barry
30. David Beckham
31. Stewart Downing
32. Joey Barton
33. Kevin Nolan
34. Shaun Wright-Phillips
35. Nigel Reo-Coker
36. Keiron Dyer
37. Gary O'Neil
38. Matthew Etherington
39. Jermaine Pennant
40. Theo Walcott
41. Jermaine Jenas
42. Phil Neville

STRIKERS:

43. Wayne Rooney
44. Michael Owen
45. Peter Crouch
46. Andy Johnson
47. Dean Ashton
48. Jermaine Defoe
49. Darren Bent
50. Gabriel Agbonlahor

Unfortunately i had to add Jenas & Phil to the list, but overall i reckon this is the top 50 players that should be in consideration for EURO 2008.

Joey's a scouser... And not the greatest of indictment for any city to be proud of, one would hazard to suggest. Fantastic talent though good to see him in the coach's thinking also had some rather choice words for the English players after the WC, which I thought were spot on...

On England players writing books- "I can't get my head around that," said Barton.
"England did nothing in that World Cup, so why were they bringing out books? If I'm buying a book I'll buy a book about someone who's won something."

Beckham's future for England (Part 2)

I know this debate has run out of steam a bit, but looking at Real Madrid's weekend clash with Sevilla on Skysports and seeing Beckham play in a more central role i think that where his future can be for England, playing a deep lying mid-fielder servicing Rooney etc with what he does best, accurate (and sometimes brillaint) passing and crosses.

Since with most mangers these days looking for pace, i think its fair to say Beckham has no chance of appearing for England again on on the right-wing.

Currently McClaren has Michael Carrick in the team as a player who can do a similar role, no offense to Carrick since he's a United bloke and he is good at what he does. But i reckon Beckham can do that role fairly effectively if given a shot.

After all thats was how Italy won the world Cup, with Pirlo being the deep lying playmaker achoring the play along with suppling brilliant passes to the front men & across the wings & Guttuso breaking up opponents attacks, we have Hargreaves who can do the tough tackling in mid-field to compliment Beckham.

So yes Beckham has hope..

If he's still got 50 names this far out, that's a worry.

Bet there's no other country with a "shortlist" that long.

Of course, it's all well and good talking about the Euro 2008 finals, but there's no guarantee we'll qualify.

I can't believe people pay £19 to see 90 minutes (well nearer 100 these days) of sub-standard football. I could understand it for Manure and the like, but Brentford v Tranmere...
I paid 21 pounds to see Argyle draw with Shrewsbury 0-0.. 22 pounds to see them lose to Derby County (although that was a good game)

Even non league Taunton Town charge 10 pounds, I only saw them lose 6-0 once, but got two fights for free..

Fed up with South African computers and their lack of a pound sign...

I thought they were good decisions myself, so did Paul Jewel.

Adebayor going for the ball, and top tackle from Fabregas, surprised he had it in him, tbh.

Would have loved it so much if Rossi had managed to score against Chelsea to bring out a draw. Shame it went wide, another poke in the side of the money men would have been nice.

Yes, a win for MANYOO, will certainly be a battle against soulless foreign money-men with no interest in the good of the game.......

On that sarcastic note, time to go to bed. Five overs of the third test match is enough to make me wish to congratulate all Aussies on regaining the Ashes, we were totally outplayed, out-gutsed, and out-thought.

Incidentally, not many of them seem to come in this thread, which has nothing to do with me making my statement here.

Your lot bowled them out for 244, Monty got 5 and Harmison 4 and are 2/51 with Bell getting a peach of a delievery (well it looked like it was but I was on the phone at the time) to sort of ruining it.

No need to hang yourself yet.

Yeah, I was a bit hasty. I was so positive for the first two tests, and it backfired, clearly pessimism is the way to go.

Still reckon we'll get bowled out for 150, and lose easily.

Anywhoo, bit off-topic.

Curbs will do a good job for the Irons, I reckon. Needed something, that Bolton performance was one of the worse I've seen in the Premiership. Feel sorry for Pardew, seems to have had some undue influence on the players brought into the squad. Yet with his fine managership at Reading and West Ham, he should walk intoanother decnt job.
