More to do with his past misdemeanours though, he has hardly covered himself in glory for England.

Also in regard to the three player you mention, If you are referring to Glen Johnson, his overrated ****e (was ****e at Millwall as well). Pissed Chelsea off royally and failed to show any sort of common sense by consistently lunging into challenges. Was crucified in a couple of Champions League game and that was the end of him. Big time Charlie.

Like Gary O’Neil though, fantastic tank but his not international class, definitely a very good pro. Whereas Sol has had his turn, getting massacred by Bobby Zamora is maybe not enough to taint one man’s career but he was liable in the WC for a goal Sweden scored and his lost one of his best qualities, pace.
You're at least partially right about Johnson and O'Neil, but you might be surprised to find out that according to Opta (I think), 70% of Pompey's goals this season have been created on the right hand side of the field. That's the side that's regularly inhabited by the partnership of - yep, you guessed it - Johnson and O'Neil. ;)

O'Neil's a very creative player when given the chance - he learned a lot from Robert Prosinecki during his one year at Fratton Park. Given that he's a former Under-21 captain and has been the subject of more than one bid from Liverpool in the past 12 months, I wouldn't be too surprised if his name starts cropping up a little more often over the course of this season. Especially if these poor displays from England continue.

"But other clubs like Aston Villa have proved that when the takeover process has been finished it can push you forward quickly."

I believe that one involved a change of manager Pards  Petrov was Villa's only summer signing in the end wasn't he.
You're forgetting Chris Sutton. :p

I'd be shocked if he were even 15th in line for a midfield call up...

The 3 up front idea is so harsh on Johnson. Would have been interesting to see him actually used through the centre, especially as Owen will be returning in the next couple of internationals.
Yes, I too would have liked to see Johson utilised through the middle - though I think he's a bit over-rated.

He's certainly not in the Owen/Rooney (when on form) class, but i'd say he's easily the equal of Crouch. It's hard to tell if he's going to be remotely good at International level when he gets played out of position each time.

Is Millwall your team?

Mind you, someone could put Mr Hanky the Christmas Pooh in a Man Utd shirt and you'd say he's looking good.
Umm no? Last season I questioned the purchase of Evra but this season I no longer do with his good performances.

Also sad news about Puskás, true champion of the game. Ridiculously impressive record not only at national level but four goals in a European Cup final, a European Cup final hat-trick two years later, no big game bottler here, ****ing legend.
Saw a clip on the news I think was the 7-1 thrashing of England at Wembley where he was in the England box, and as a player went to tackle him he moved out of his way and scored.

Hopefully he did not pick up on Robert's training methods, smoking 40 a day and doing little or no training. Ridiculously talented though and I can think of worse players to learn from.

You raise a good point, hence why I would have liked to see him in the middle too.

WRT him being the equal of Crouch - as far as goalscoring goes, he's easily above Crouch, but I'm beginning to think Crouch may just offer more to the team overall.

Lovely, that's the sort of player the commentators, pundits and people on here should be reserving their superlatives for, not some posing flat track bully who can't even perform regularly again solid international level sides.

 Yeah, I remember going down to our Eastleigh training ground once or twice and seeing Prosi train, he always used to put out his cigarette just before he stepped onto the pitch. Then he'd proceed to literally walk through every other player on the field during the training game, making them look like complete idiots, then light up again as soon as he came off the field. Legend. :)

RIP, a brilliant brilliant footballer who led one of the, if not the, greatest football teams to grace this earth. What a record he had.

Internationally, 83 goals in 84 games. Domestically for Real Madrid, 512 goals in 528 games. That's incredible.
Yea that record really is superb, geez does any other striker in history have such a superb record, damn bloody legend...

CDMs somehow losing at home to Newcastle, chief poseur started on the bench. CDMs should have cashed in on him while they could before the start of the season.
