TBF Barca have been playing Van Bronckhorst @ left-back, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Lilian there next year.
I'd have thought they'd try Zambrotta there first, even if he was a right back for Italy?

Seems like Damien Duff will now be moving to Newcastle instead of Spurs as first though. Good signing if you ask me though going by Newcastle’s misfortune with injures, Duff will probably do his hamstring in no time.

Newcastle brings misfortune on themselves by continually signing crocks for more than they are worth in an effort to show they are a "big club". As soon as they have injuries the season goes down the pan because they have zero depth.

They have had a rubbish defence for how long and they go and sign a crocked Owen for 18 million plus 80,000 a week wages.

Shearer retires, Owen is predicatably looking at a majority of the season on the sidelines leaving them with Ameobi and a big Spanish ***** and what do they do? Go and spend another 10 million and probably 60,000 on wages for a crocked left winger when they have N'Zogbia and Milner already.

Worst signing of the summer.

Sorry, but since when was Owen injured when signed?

He wasn't at all, he has just been incredibly unlucky since joining them.

Are you serious? Owen had chronic hamstring troubles at Liverpool, the club even fired a physio over them.

Once you have soft tissue injuries they are extremely hard to shake, it was only a matter of time until the hamstring went twang again.

The world cup injury admittedly is completely different, of course.

When he signed for Newcastle, he took and passed a medical.

Since then he has had 2 completely unrelated injuries.

Covers left-back too, but £8.5 million seems very OTT. If Mr Tweedy up sticks (and I frankly can't wait, little Judas) we're very light there. Clichy supposedly not fit til September & Flamini, admirable a job as he did there, isn't a long-term option.
Why not Chiellini of Juventus?

Well he will be a lot cheaper in wages then what Arsenal are paying for Ashley Cole. Probably won't surprise me to see him running around for Chelsea next season now that Asier del Horno is all but sold to Valencia.

Meh. As long as we get the market price. I don't want to keep any player who doesn't want to play for my team.

Speaking of Chelsea, Sir Alex begins his final season (:p) at The Evil Empire with a superbly sustained & marvellously hypocritical rant about them buying success. Wasn't such a problem a few years back tho, eh? From today's Mirror:

I was sure he was one of the Newcastle hamstring victims.

Infact with the help of google:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2005/12/18/sfgwes18.xml

On the initial occasion when West Ham fell behind, Tomas Repka was starkly responsible, the Czech defender allowing himself to be caught by Owen, who exchanged passes with Shearer and tried a shot that Roy Carroll touched but could not keep out. It was Owen's first goal since the late double that undid Argentina in Geneva; a hamstring injury had kept him out of three matches, until last weekend's comeback in the victory over Arsenal.

Ok so It wasn't a serious one but it has caused him troubles.

The point still stands he has had a history of injuries and spending that much money on one player when you have a range of pressing issues to resolve is irresponsible.

Aside from Essien, Kalou, Geremi, Drogba, Obi Mikel, who are the other 25 African players?
