He's actually got four now ahead of him. Raul and Ronaldo weren't lighting it up last season yet they still played more than him. He's just going to get less opportunities this season.
4 you say ?

i count 3, ronaldo, raul and robinho, we wont count portillo as he isnt going to push owen out of the side.

as for baptista who i assume you are counting as this fourth player, he isnt a striker, he is a midfielder, and midfield is where he will be playing for the majority of this season.

Well if they are so meaningless then why even play them at all then just use them to hand caps to z-grade players like Young, Jeffers etc. when they could have followed Australia's option and not play one?

For the amount of money Sven is on - he hasn't been that successfull when you consider they haven't got past the QF stage of the last two major tournaments. It is all very well doing well in rest of the matches but unless you win something then IMO he should be sacked next year if they don't make the semi's.
wtf ! thats ridiculous, sven has an excellent record, much better than any of the previous england managers of recent times, the fact that england havent made it past the quarters in the last two tournaments is down to the fact that in japan/korea 2002 the team was knackered due to the heavy prem season and being drawn against the best team in the competition, and as for portugal in 2004 they had a perfectly good goal dissalowed and would have gone through otherwise, i dont think he will last long after the world cup in germany, but that will be through his own resignation, the FA will not sack him unless england really do foul up and go out in the group stages, even then its doubtful.

Who was number 3 last season then? Morientes?

If England can't make it to the Semis of the WC he should go. It doesn't make sense making excuses for him. I'm pretty sure other Premiership players, foreigners played well regardless of a heavy season.

It is no different in Germany, Italy, Spain, France etc. where the majority of Brazil's player's play in or that case Germany who also made the final?

Hey it is all very well and good having a good record - but use is it unless they actually win something. On paper England wil have one of the best sides in the tournament so anything other then the Semi's will be a disappointment IMO unless they go out to a freak goal or poor injustice. As for the goal, if John Terry hadn't climbed all over Ricardo then they would have scored. the winner. and Eriksson doesn't help his case by picking useless players as well.

England's demise at Portugal was their own fault, they lose to France because Beckham couldn't convert a penalty and Heskey and Gerrard decided to do something brainless and England trying to play defensively and having no options when Rooney went off.

Are you sure about that? AFAIk he was signed as a striker (converted as you know from a holding midfielder role).

Look at Germany in euroe 2004 didnt even manage too win a game. And then the likes of France and Argentina who had players playing in long seasons before the world cup in 2002 failed even too reach the knockout stages while Italy and spain who had the same problem were knocked out by South Korea in the world cup and didnt get throguh the group stages of euro 2004.

Im not saying the whole reason for big sides doing poorley in major competitions is down too fatigue but the fact that sides like greece and south korea that have done well in big competitons have players that have played less football in the season than the players from the big sidies

Newcastle have made a bid of about 16 million pounds for owen and we will now wait and see if liverpool are prepared too match this. It is a lot of money but i think he will be worth it for newcastle who are in desparate need of a striker and i would improve the team massivly. It wont solve the problem of the awful manager or the fact that they lack creation in midfeald but if they can get him itl be a huge boost for the team

i hope newcastle get him, and i expect that they will, i dont see liverpool making a bid that large for a player that they sold for half the price last year, not to mention the fact that they have already shelled out a quite a bit on new players already this year.

dont be suprised if liverpooldo match or better that bid with baros going to villa it gives them the opportunity to purcahse, that is to say if real will accept tha bid of 16 million

that is trur actually, i had forgotten about the sale of baros, in fact i now wouldnt be suprised to see them make a move.

me being a massive liverpool fan iw ould be sad if he went to newcastle as i was sad when they sold him in the first place however who nows mate,

I fear that with all their efforts going into getting owen if they fail too secure his signeture they will wind up not getting a striker at all with the window closing in just a few days

It seems too be a total stalemate at the moment with liverpool as of yet not wiling too pay reals asking price for owen as it would be seen as a massive loss for a player they sold for just 8 million plus the large amount of money they have spent this year. There has been mention of cisse moving too raise the funds but who knows if benitez is prepared to do this while owen holds out for a liverpool move it is pretty obvious that he doesnt want too join newcaslte on a permanent basis. If liverpool dont come in for him it is all down too owen. does he want too stay at madrid in the risk of not playing or join a club he clearly doesnt wish too join. i suppose the loan is still possible

sledger

Spanish_Vicente
unless liverpool come up with the cash then the loan deal at the moment is looking pretty certain as he seems intent on leaving real.
