Such wins give the lesser nations a lot of inspiration for the future.

Bangladesh vs Australia was a meaningless round robin match but one the people of that country will speak for ages if not ever.
that is true, and i agree,

but i seriously dont think that the england players will have lost a great deal of pride due to the other nights result, half the players probably couldnt be assed and are only intrested in money anyway.

There is some thing called pride which is dented for one team and a lot of pride which is gained for another even in these friendlies. :p
It means absolutely nothing.

Just look at the record in competitive games and friendlies under Sven.

If their pride is so dented, how come they do it when it matters?

I refer you back to Campbell's awesome goal scoring record over the last 3 seasons. Also WBA have only scored 2 goals in their 2 Premiership games so far.
so what?

arsenal have only scored that many, liverpool and newcastle have scored less, that statistic means nothing.

They dont because they keep losing in the penalty shoot outs ;)

The pride of the fans if not the players is certainly dented by losing to Australia in football to some degree I am sure.

i dont think thats really the case either tbh, they get angry at the stupid nature of these endless friendlies but i dont know a soul who's pride has been dented by losing one of these games.

Which has what relevance to your previous comment regarding pride?

Absolutely none.

Not a bit, because it was a meaningless game, as stated beforehand.

i dont see what his problem is, his position at real madrid is no worse than it was last year, the same period last year he had 3 strikers ahead of him that he had to compete with to get in the team, that is the same now. If anything his position is stronger considering he has established himself in spain now and doesnt have to do anymore settling in, if i were him i would stay at real without any doubts in my mind at all.
He's actually got four now ahead of him. Raul and Ronaldo weren't lighting it up last season yet they still played more than him. He's just going to get less opportunities this season.

Tgat is your perspective, not mine.

As stated before by me too, there is more at stake than just rewards which you stated at such games. (ref: Bangladesh vs Australia match)

So go on then, explain how there is relevance in your penalty statement to pride in players?

Completely different scenarios - that was a competitive ODI as it was in a tournament so it meant something.

The more relevant games would be something like Somerset vs Australia, a game they lost, but meant nothing in the long run, a bit like the meaningless football friendlies.

There's no reward for winning friendly games.

I consider that meaningless that if it's not on terrestrial TV I won't walk half a mile to the pub to watch the game.
Well if they are so meaningless then why even play them at all then just use them to hand caps to z-grade players like Young, Jeffers etc. when they could have followed Australia's option and not play one?

For the amount of money Sven is on - he hasn't been that successfull when you consider they haven't got past the QF stage of the last two major tournaments. It is all very well doing well in rest of the matches but unless you win something then IMO he should be sacked next year if they don't make the semi's.

Here I am spending big bucks to buy Henry and what does he do - get me a lousy two!.

40 points so far and there will be changes.

Pride in players, team fans :

If India defeat Brazil even in a friendly it will be significant even though there is no apparent reward.

Similarly many sporting examples can be conjured up.

You have the choice to feel what you wish, that losing a friendly does not matter but the Australian fans certainly will not agree.
