Left winger at full back, dear oh dear...
Sounds like the CDMs, I think buying a massively over-rated forward who barely scores any goals and then trying to convert him into a central midfielder goes one better tho.

Eh? How? Thought Marc was talking about Richardson.

Very true "great at going forward", shame that isn't his role really!!
Well I think in this day & age it's pretty much expected that full-backs make overlapping runs down the wing. I agree it's the stronger suit of Cole's play, but he isn't as dire defensively as people seem to think.

I don't really want to be in a position where I'm defending him tho, because I think we shoulda punted the little turncoat in the close season.

He isn't dire defensively by any means, but if i was a manager i would prefer a defender to defender properly before even thinking about his attacking qualities. Gallas or Cole?? I'd go for Gallas every time even if he can't put a cross in with his left peg to save his life.

to be honest i dont think its anywhere near that bad, although hes a very decent player hes no way as integral to man utd as nistelrooy is, oshea is a very good player and has shown that he can play all across the defence effectively, so its not as bad as many are making out if you ask me, it just leaves them a defender short, as several of their other players can play left back.
You're underestimating his value. O' Shea is good yeah but no one is close to Heinze at left back for Man Utd. Not that others wouldn't be able to do a good job but he just gives you that bit extra. IMO he's the best left back in England right now from what i've seen. Cole's not as good defensiuvely and only slightly better when attacking. Del Horno's a newbie so can't judge him. Wayne Bridge though might have a case.

Who is and always has been an attacking left back.

Much in the mould Roberto Carlos is.
'attacking left back' - that'll be a left winger then. Roberto Carlos is a left winger played out of position, except when he's played against England then he carries Beckham in his back pocket and played wherever he liked.

Eyes not spreadsheets
Indeed it is not.

He is a defender who is good going forward.

In fact I'd say he's a better defender than Carlos (as he did show at Euro 2004 when many pundits called him the best left back in the world - something I find it hard to disagree with)
