I took an interest in the rise of Inverness Caldedonian Thistle from nobodies to a Scot Prem team.

It was a quote from a song by Fiddler's Dram called "Day trip to Bangor". The lyrics of the song spawned much debate amongst folkies years ago because many didn't fit the things you would find or be able to do in Bangor.

My feelings are that it's a bloody song, for crying out loud, not a philosophical discussion.

Meh now now Chelsea have signed Michael Ballack on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

Now if they don't have one of the best midfields in Europe/world (club sides) then I don't know who has.

Probably be:

----------------------- Lampard - Makelele - Ballack ---------------------------------------

With Essien and Ballack swapping with each other as they need Makelele in the starting line-up and Lampard is too good to be on the bench, although now that they have Ballack this might promp Barclelona to try and sign him even more, as they probably feel that Lampard might think that Ballack is a threat and may not like it. This is probably more of a theroy then fact though, although Essien won't like sitting on the bench I guess.

Whilst it isn't English, it is interesting to see what happens with Juventus after winning their 29th Scudetti, if they are proven of match-fixing/influecing results, and therefore dropped to last spot and therefore relegated to Serie B, with either Lecce or Messina being granted a lifeline in Serie A (I supposed they might play-off for relegation, or maybe not then Messina stay's up), because if they are relegated, then they would have to sell off their big names, and at cheaper prices to avoid going bankrupt (every Inter, Milan, Torino, Roma, Derby and anybody else who hate's Juvetus will probably be rejoicing), and their players will want to leave, and it may mean Chelsea would get Zlatan or Trezeguet (or both) who they have long desired.

I would be interested in other people's opinions, especially those who follow European football, not just English (ie Barney, TT Boy etc.).

England is part of Europe by the way, you mean continental football.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club, although they're by no means alone in their guilt and other countries' (including English) clubs have had mucky paws over the years. Juve do have quite a chequered history though, and I hope they get sent down and made an example of.

That said Milan isn't a exactly the innocent party as well as Fiorentina and Lazio. Fine by me if Fiorentina are sent down, we will take Luca Toni - 31 goals thank you very much. Pazzini and Bojinov will fit in fine.

Juventus were never correctly punished for doping their players throughout the early nineties so I doubt the Italian FA will chuck the book at them, especially considering many of the board were involved and implicated with the whole sorry mess, this is the Old Lady we are talking about.

But UEFA really does need to get involved somehow because this does not just extent to Serie A where such trivial things as losing games on purpose is not new but Juvu were also attempting to fix Champions League games. Of course this infact is not a first in European football, Olympique de Marseille were demoted in the early 90s for match fixing and to this day I believe their Champions League triumph is not recognised by UEFA because of this. Supposedly much more which will be coming out in the next few weeks, specifically the players involved, will be interesting to see what 'stars' were involved.

I live for the day that Juventus are relegated for match-fixing, and that everyone involved is jailed.

I hate the disgraceful cheating scum with a passion that is probably unhealthy - to the extent that I wouldn't accept a Fiat if it were free.

Hang about - that's got nothing to do with Juventus.

Anyone who's guilty of match-fixing deserves to be hit hard. Being relegated would totally ruin Juventus, and it would be completely deserved - so I'm in favour.

Also, it'd be damn funny. Imagine how you'd feel if it happened to Man Utd - that's probably how most of Italy feels now.
