Juventus were never correctly punished for doping their players throughout the early nineties so I doubt the Italian FA will chuck the book at them, especially considering many of the board were involved and implicated with the whole sorry mess, this is the Old Lady we are talking about.

But UEFA really does need to get involved somehow because this does not just extent to Serie A where such trivial things as losing games on purpose is not new but Juvu were also attempting to fix Champions League games. Of course this infact is not a first in European football, Olympique de Marseille were demoted in the early 90s for match fixing and to this day I believe their Champions League triumph is not recognised by UEFA because of this. Supposedly much more which will be coming out in the next few weeks, specifically the players involved, will be interesting to see what 'stars' were involved.
I have heard Gigi Buffon and Cagliari goal keeper Chimenti (who was a Juventus player until the January transfer window) are the ones I know who are being investigated. Although I think we will all agree that Buffon is more high-profile then Chimenti was or ever will be.

Lazio were relegated about 30 years ago for a similar scandal, and I seem to recall that something untoward occurred to AC Milan as well.

Meanwhile, the entire Juventus board have resigned and the share price has crashed.

Buffon is being investigated for something else, betting on European (non Italian) club football, not fixing games just betting on say Arsenal to beat Chelsea. Not that shocking considering so many British players do that and never get in to any ‘real’ trouble. Steve Claridge just got a fine I believe for betting on himself and his team to win so Buffon should be pretty safe, considering he was not betting on the performances of himself and his fellow team-mates.

Also there is word that Buffon was only investigated because he was not too happy about the whole match fixing business and he has stated (unlike Del Piero) if Juvu go down, his off.

Lazio and AC were kicked out of Serie A in the early 80s, AC went straight back up only to get regulated the next season. AC notoriously lost against one team in Serie B that season (the name escapes me) whose attendance was about 100 and the strange thing was Milan actually had a pretty good team, many of the 'stars' of the 70s were still floating about and I believe Joe Jordan played for AC in that season as well.

This is totally apropos of nothing, but I'd love to hear Neil's views on the grammar of rap music.

The Mighty Mariners through to the final of the League Two playoff after a hard fought home leg against Lincoln.

Can't complain at all.....except for the fact Jones was sent off in the dying minutes and may well miss the final because of it. Not seen it but I've been told it was a touch and go one so may get overturned.

Bring on Cheltenham (??).

Very harsh for me - yeah, there was elbow/face contact, but Jones' eyes never left the ball at any point. I don't see how it's violent conduct.

Thank God for common sense.
I'm assuming you mean the decision to ratify his appointment rather than the appointment itself?

I'm willing to bet that when yer Geordies get a run of dodgy results everyone will suddenly remember that Roeder was the man who took a talented Irons team into Div One (as was) & caused them to have to flog the family silver. Nice man, but he's been promoted beyond his abilities.

Also amused to see El Tool is the warm favourite to be the next Middlesboro manager. I'd be interested to hear any Leeds or Pompey fans' (Barnard...?) opinions of his managerial prowess.... :p

Personally I'm too much of a Pompey newbie to know, really - he was mid-90s IIRC, and my first game was the back end of 97-98, under Pulis I think.
