He's probably a bit too old. Still class though. Owen's easier to get though since he's pretty much surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.
I never said he was a long term option though.

The one suggestion I have read on the bbc forums is that they swap Saha for Essien.
IMO they are better off trying to sign him instead of Owen.

Don't think Lyon would be jumping at the chance to get an injury prone striker for someone like Essien. True he's needed more than Owen but if you can get Owen go for it.

Lyon have told Chelsea they want a player in return.

Apart from say Geremi - I can't think of who.

Like Sven Goran Eriksson?

If Man Utd want a new striker how about Roy Makaay? He started off well last night (I saw his goals and they weren't tap in's either) and is in fact a proven goal scorer who gets them from inside and outside the box and can hurle some stunning freekicks like I remember him doing for Bayern last season.

As far as I am concerned he is the most under-rated striker in the world (most certainly in Europe) when his job is too get the goals and that he does.
i wouldnt say hes underated at all tbh, i think its common knowledge that hes a damn good player, man utd want him, thats also a well known fact, but somehow i dont think they can afford him, and i dont suppose he would really want to join them with them in the state that they are in.

Looks like Wayne Rooney could be in trouble from now on. Foul language to an official can now result in a red card. I'm thinking Sir Alex needs to get him some anger management classes immediately.
thats been the rule for a very long time now, its just that the majority of referees are far to weak to enforce it.

its not like the result of this match means anything, good run out for most of the players on both sides, thats about all that can be taken from that match.

perhaps, but realise that nobody in the last 8 years has won the charity shield and gone on to win the premiership.
