They finished 4th arguably because the other team was unfairly hindered (and yes 1 game is enough to make a difference over 38).marc71178 said:They've finished 4th over a 38 game season - since the top 4 go through, then yes, they do deserve it.
And I said as much (but I do think it is possible).Pothas said:I think that is very unlikely.
Can we replay the 1972 European Cup semi-final please? The referee was bribed and I'm convinced that Derby would have become the second English side to win the competition.Tom Halsey said:They finished 4th arguably because the other team was unfairly hindered (and yes 1 game is enough to make a difference over 38).
Not "unfairly hindered" by any reasonable definition. The police aren't persuing their investigations any further so it's safe to assume there's no suspicion of foul play.Tom Halsey said:They finished 4th arguably because the other team was unfairly hindered (and yes 1 game is enough to make a difference over 38).
Not pretty much all their first team squad though. Can't expect to win a match with only four or five players fully fit against a team with all of their players fit.BoyBrumby said:Not "unfairly hindered" by any reasonable definition. They may have been unlucky, but frankly so what? All teams have players unavailable for one reason or another at some stage of the season & aren't given the opportunity to replay their games when the result goes against them.
Didn't work that way for Middlesboro when they were hit by a virus in 1997. They called off a game (v Blackburn, IIRC) & were summarily docked 3 points which was crucial in them being relegated that season. Although I suspect they acted unilaterally.Matteh said:As i understand it if a large percentage of your squad are injured you can apply for a postponement - It's happened to Mansfield in the last two years. But obviously with the last game of the season, Premiership team and the way that it sounds like an excuse combination, Tottenham weren't going to get it.
No, it's not semantics, it's a clear fact - there's a gulf.roseboy64 said:That's just semantics. You don't know what I mean by that statement. There may well be a big gap but he's very close to closing it. He's already shown he can be Premiership class and a regular run in the side may just prove that.
No, I would, because the league table is the only thing that matters.roseboy64 said:I bet if you were a Spurs fan you wouldn't be saying that.
How could they?Tom Halsey said:Hmm, it isn't over yet, unlikely but Spurs could conceivably win their appeal
If 1 game is enough to make a difference over the 38 you can hardly say that they conclusively deserved it.Tom Halsey said:They finished 4th arguably because the other team was unfairly hindered (and yes 1 game is enough to make a difference over 38).
That's not been his only first team game.marc71178 said:No, it's not semantics, it's a clear fact - there's a gulf.
How in 1 game versus Burton has he shown anything like Premiership class?
Fair enough I guess.marc71178 said:No, I would, because the league table is the only thing that matters.
Bearing in mind that since Xmas my side has been about the 2nd or 3rd best in the Chmapionship but got nowhere near the play-offs, I think I can say that...

According to Spurs' chairman everything didn't go as should have pre game, not talking about the players being sick.marc71178 said:How could they?

Arsenal only came 4th because of the last game - so similarly you cannot say they conclusively deserved it.marc71178 said:If 1 game is enough to make a difference over the 38 you can hardly say that they conclusively deserved it.
The facts are that Arsenal finished 4th and thus get the 4th spot in the CL, regardless of what's fair or not.
Well, they're discussing it again at the Board meeting today, and armed with a majority of Premier League chairmen behind Spurs... I do think there is a slight chance.marc71178 said:How could they?
