How is that measured?!
This site will explain better than I ever can.

In short, the rating is defined as an average of the clubs' performances, and the big nations generally have one Everton, Osasuna, Rennes or Sampdoria dragging them down. Romania had both Bucharest sides win a load of games in the UEFA Cup, thereby dragging the average skywards.

Presumably Ecomax Cluj will drag it all down to earth again next season.

Shouldn't teams playing in the Champions league earn double the points or something? Wouldn't that sort out the problem of teams from crap (comparatively) countries doing OK in the 2nd division of Europe.

sad to know that Vodafone wont be Man U sponsor after this season, but the AIG things doesn't look. The last year has had such change at OT, first Glazer takes over now this:dry:

Absolutely no way.

Football isn't JUST about the top teams, although to talk to many supporters of pretty well any of the so-called 'elite' clubs, there tends to be quite often a 'devil take the hindmost' attitude.

The only reason you even have a Champions League in its current form is as a sop to the so-called 'elite' clubs to prevent a breakaway 'European uper League' - I was amazed that many of their own supporters voted with their feet and got rid of the tedious 'Second Group' phase.

Still some want more - G-14 will have another go at setting up their own super-league when the next TV franchises run out - especially if they are prevented from showing their games live on their own PPV channels. Then there's this rubbish about clubs not wanting to release players for internationals, or (even worse) demanding millions in compensation if they get injured.

Personally, I'm all for it - never having to suffer endless Man Utd v Arsenal games would be a blessing.

No-one's yet adequately explained to me what's wrong for the club about Glazer taking over.

<much snipped>
Yes, of course, but that's not my point.

Romania have a load of teams doing well in the UEFA Cup, who wouldn't do well in the European Cup. But because there's nothing in this system to take into account the gulf in quality between the two competitions, Romania are rated the top nation in the European Club Football rankings.

Here's very vague and rubbish example:

Team X wins the Premiership with 80 points.

Team Y wins the Isthmian League with 90 points.

Team Y are thus considered the best team in England, because they gained more points.

well at first i just didn't want him because he was American to take over but after a while i've just got accustomed to it. But now AIG will be our sponsor, Man U is full of american stuff..

One way of doing redressing the balance is getting rid of this absolutely ridiculous idea of teams getting eliminated from one competition and then going into the other one.

Erm... what's wrong with an American sponsor?

Obviously I wouldn't want Old Trafford renamed to something American or something else renamed, but what's wrong with an American sponsor? It's only a name on a shirt.

it may be just a name on the shirt but to some Man U fans including myself, it just doesn't feel right.

Why? I'm sure plenty of other clubs have had American sponsors before anyway.

If it gets us more money (which it does) then I'm for it.
