Lyon are an awesome side. Wouldn't be surprised if they won it. They're not among the favourites, but how often do the favourites win the CL?
yep Lyon are looking good, but for me i got Juve to win it this year..

Benitez shows his Sven streak by waiting til 7-8 minutes left to bring Crouch on - this after the guy scores 2 goals and has had obvious confidence problems... so what do you do when he gets his confidence going? Let him rot on the bench. The vegetable would be proud.

Or, alternatively, he's resting him from a meaningless game so that he can be fit and high on confidence for the many far more important games the team have coming up.

Except it's obviously not a meaningless game to them when they're playing more or less the first XI in both games.

Note Gerrard's reaction at the end of the final and his lack of feigned injury.

Putting him on with 7-8 minutes of normal time left serves no useful purpose because there's little time for him to have an effect and he's still having to play football so he's not being completely rested either.

Gerrard cares so much about every game you can't use his reaction as a yardstick. The fact that 5 changes were made from semi-final to final shows how meaningful it was. Would Warnock have played if it was a Premiership game against Chelsea? No.

9 of the 15 Premiership games so far Warnock has played a minimum of 68 minutes in, so he may well play against Chelsea.

Fair enough. Always saw Riise as their first-choice left-back personally. Still, though, you don't make five changes to a side that's just won 3-0 if you're that bothered about winning.

No surely not.

Surely Benitez with his recent record as a manager knows nothing compared to Scaly?!

So explain how the likes of Josemi had a run out then?

So explain why it was still nearly their first XI in both games instead of coming up with the odd exception which doesn't prove anything. Benitez is known for regularly changing the personnel anyway, so there's usually some dubious selection thrown in.

Every time anyone generalises even slightly on this site you come up with some pointless comment like this - like for instance if I said England had a good Test team you'd go 'erm... duh... err... why've they got Giles in the team then'

Well the rules are quite clear, the tie is over 180 minutes, so that is the only score that matters.
And no one questioned the rules or Chelsea earning their victory really.

Another Wenger classic:

"We are too long behind Chelsea now to consider that we will challenge them for the championship, but I feel we have to qualify for the Champions League and come back. We lack a little bit of physical power in certain areas but the team is developing well. I think it is the start of a new era."

Yes Arsene, instead of the era of winning the odd competition and being second best in countless others you're now going to be also rans for every competition.

Yet again a certain someone fails to see past the nationality of the manager to appreciate the side that is being built.

Actually I very much appreciate this 20-points-behind-Chelsea side that he's building.
