My 2,000th post - yay me.Barney Rubble said:When you implied that it was a bad thing to average over a goal a game against bad sides and less than half a goal a game against good ones - you made it sound like you expected a similar rate of scoring against any team. If that's not what you meant then I apologise, but that's how it sounded.
Yes but if you're a quality player you should be doing very well against all opposition - IMO that's at least 0.5 a game.Barney Rubble said:Even when the likes of Chelsea only concede at about 0.5? You have high standards!![]()
As were the rest of the team. Pat Crerand I think it was who said that Man Utd need 11 good to great performances to beat Chelsea and tha's what happened.Tom Halsey said:Have to say, Rio was absolutely immense today. I've been one of his critics of late, but he and Wes Brown were magnificent 2nd half, as were they all.
Well at present if I had to choose between Owen and Henry against a team like Germany, Brazil or Argentina I'd have to go with Owen - and to me Owen is a good, dependable international player but nothing more than that (Rooney and Lampard for example would be a cut above that), so it follows that Henry isn't that great either if he's not ahead of Owen.Tom Halsey said:Yes but if you're a quality player you should be doing very well against all opposition - IMO that's at least 0.5 a game.
I should at this point add that I don't dispute that Henry is world class player, but he's not a world class goalscorer.
That there Terry Henry bloke (as I once heard him described) has got more skill in his little finger than most footballers have in their bodies. His biggest problem seems to be that he's a 'moody' player.Scaly piscine said:Well at present if I had to choose between Owen and Henry against a team like Germany, Brazil or Argentina I'd have to go with Owen - and to me Owen is a good, dependable international player but nothing more than that (Rooney and Lampard for example would be a cut above that), so it follows that Henry isn't that great either if he's not ahead of Owen.
Dont you have that feeling before most if not every man y game?Tom Halsey said:I had a feeling we'd win this and flop for the rest of the season - 1-0 to the Reds! Get in there!
Which of course conveniently ignores the several times he has done it in big games.Scaly piscine said:To be a top striker he has to do it against the big teams just as a player would be judged in cricket.
So who in the world is then?Tom Halsey said:I should at this point add that I don't dispute that Henry is world class player, but he's not a world class goalscorer.
Which of course conveniently ignores the overwhelming number of times he has done sweet FA in big games.marc71178 said:Which of course conveniently ignores the several times he has done it in big games.
By default it must be an overwhelming number, the CDMs play in europe each year, play Manure, Liverpool and Chelsea twice in the league (there are usually 2-3 'big teams' in the league each year, not always these 3) and I can barely remember him scoring. The only one I can remember is the one where he knocked the ball up and volleyed it over the keeper. Feel free to direct me to a decent football stats site (if such a thing exists) and show me how many times he's scored against Chelsea in the last 2 years, Manure in the last 5 years, Liverpool most of the last 5 years, big european teams and so on.marc71178 said:Overwhelming number - do tell us then.
Not interested in guessed statistics. Lets see some proper recorded games once and for all.sledger said:hat trick against liverpool 2 years ago, in last 5 years hes scored at least 5 times against man utd.

then find a better record if you will, incidentily Henry was frances top scorer at the world cup in 98, and didnt even play in the final. That's useless without giving all the big games he's not scored in.
03/04 Premiership
2 games Man U, one goal
2 games Cheslea, one goal
04/05 Premiership
2 games Man U, no goal
2 games Chelsea, two goals
05/06 Premiership
1 game Chelsea, no goal
So 4 out of 9 so far when he's basically the only player the CDMs have up front, I'm sure it'll go down when I look at Champions' League and Internationals...
