Hmmm, could this finally be Arsene's big year, Trophy above head, even at the cost of big Premiership sucess.
I wouldn't read anything into qualifying from the easiest group in Champions League history (just in front of the group with Artmedia and Rangers in 2nd and 3rd).

Tom, Liverpool weren't really good enough to win it, Gerrard made them, like Henry does for us, they made a big gamble, choosing the Champions League over the Premiership. It came off.

Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan are the four best teams in the competition - although Liverpool have proven that doesn't necessarily matter.

I'd stick money on a Chelsea-Barcelona final though, as long as the draw doesn't pair them up before that.
I would never write off Liverpool myself either, irrespective of the standard of opposition.

They just win European Cups and steal cars better than anyone.

No discussion possible - you presented us with the perfectly worded fait accompli.
Fair play! :D

Roy Keane was a little out of line with his comments the other day, but nonetheless completely spot on. However, it's open to debate exactly what effect it would have on Man Utd if they were to get rid of him in January as has been suggested. Discuss.

What did he actually say?

On Van der Sar: "He should have saved that. That was saveable."

On O'Shea: "He's just strolling around when he should have been busting a gut to get back."

On Rio: "Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink robbed Ferdinand for the second goal... I have seen that happen to Rio before. It is poor defending."

On Darren Fletcher: "I can't understand why people in Scotland rave about Darren Fletcher."

On Kieran Richardson: "He is a lazy defender who deserved to get punished.. he wasn't doing his job."

On Alan Smith: "What is he doing there? He is wandering around as if he is lost. He doesn't know what he is doing."

The only one that's probably out of line is the Fletcher one, that one is not constructive criticism. Although he should probably be saying all the rest in private.

According to today's Guardian Keane was even more damning of Rio:

"just because you are paid £120,000 a week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham, you think you are a superstar. At this club it seems to me that you have to play badly to be rewarded."

Ouch. Full story here

It was a one-off, and I can't see it happening again.

yes indeed, although this is arsenals best start in the competition ever, i think judgement has to be reserved until they come up against a decent side. Credit where its due though, they have done well.

Harley was the one I couldn't remember. Even so, Lampard and Terry have done a lot to redeem themselves since then - Woodgate hasn't really done much of anything! :D
in fairness to woody hes done all that he could have done really, injuries have massively set him back, but yeah, lampard and terry have well and truly redeemed themselves and are now two of the best players in the world.....shame about john harley :p although i always quite liked him in his fulham days..

If and when the two teams do meet, no prizes for guessing who I will be rooting for.

How is a group containing Inter and Porto easy?

And Sparta as 3rd team in a group does not make it the easiest group ever, but since it's Arsenal and you're known for your xenophobic comments regarding them...

Keane is absolutely 100% right, though it should probably have been said privately.
That's not his style though, is it?

Methinks he'd be a better bloke to be in charge than Taggart.

The fact that Porto are below Artmedia and Rangers should tell you something. As for the CDMs I'm not xenophobic at all, they're just a bunch of cheating tossers and most of them being french is just an added bonus.

The last bit gives lie to the "not xenophobic at all" a tad, no?
