i think Gazzard has a BIG future, not exaggerating I think he could play for England looking at him the last few games. Obviously not being a somerset fan I don't know what he's like most of the time.
Gazzard = Legend.

Very, very good 'keeper from what I've seen, and a useful and resourceful batsman. Give it three or four years, when Geraint Jones (who although he doesn't seem it, is 28 already) is on the downward slope, and Matt Prior has already missed his chance (assuming he's ever going to get one, that is), Gazz could well be in contention.

Hampshire with yet another amazing recovery from a seeminlgy hopless position. From 85-7 they have got too 290-7 with Nick Pothas and Andy Bichel hitting centuries. This pretty much sums up their season and the mentality that Warne even if he is not there now has installed into his side. It also again shows that they would probably be on there way too being champions if they had any sort of top order. Pothas on great form with 2 centuries and an 80 in his last 2 games.

Interesting, Lancs have gone from playing the likes of Hogg or Chapple at 6 earlier in the season with a 9,10 jack of Anderson, Murali, Keedy. To today when the have Marshall, with 664runs@39 in first class cricket coming in at number 10, its a good job aswell because we've collapsed from 219-3 to 271-8

Somerset getting belted around again.

Cricinfo have pulled off another blinder on their match scorecard so far - Di Venuto not out 84, Adnan not out 32, and Luke Sutton also not out 6.........

Somerset "restricted" Derbyshire to 277, and they're doing fairly well in reply.

Carl "Hero" Gazzard and Arul "Who?" Suppiah have both struck fairly quick fifties, Suppiah's was only his 2nd List A half-century. Up until today, I had no idea why he was batting 3 - I always thought he was a left-arm spinner who could bat a bit, now it turns out he's the opposite, a useful batsman who can bowl a few left-arm tweakers.

strange eh, Marshall is an ok bloke but i would have thought Mahmood could have retained his place.....

Is that how Lancs select their team these days? The coach (I forget who it is) just goes "like you, don't like you, you're ok, hate you, you're an idiot, you're great, you slept with my wife last week......you should be able to work out the team from that". :D

On a serious note, how good is Marshall? A leg-spinning all-rounder from Lancashire - sounds familiar, and we all know how it turned out before.......mind you, if things turn out differently, we could have a good find on our hands.

well his FC bowling stats so far (all playing University Cricket) are Ian Salsibury in tests territory, but he's been playing consistently well in second XI cricket so i guess this is his chance to impress. From what i've heard he's not a massive spinner of the ball, but rarely gets belted around the park, he took 9fer50odd in a second XI game last year.

Probably that flying stop/slappy thing he did with about three balls left of the Final - good commitment, but I'm sure with the benefit of hindsight the Lancashire management would rather he hadn't broken himself in half saving two runs in a game that was already lost anyway.

Well, I guess if he's capable of taking 9-fors at 2nd XI level he's got to be worth a chance, especially if Old Trafford has been spinning this year. If he does well this game, what'll happen when Keedy's fit again? Would Lancs consider twin spinners, plus Symonds if necessary? That may be overkill, I think.

i expect he'd go back to the seconds straight away, Symonds bowling in 4d is overrated but Lancs would be more likely to play Andy Crook at 6 as another spinning option.

Is it just me, or is Lancs' strength in depth amazing this season? If you assume this is Lancs' first choice XI:

Chilton
Law
Loye
North
Flintoff
Symonds
Cork
Chapple
Hegg
Anderson
Keedy

Then this is their 2nd XI:

Sutcliffe
Horton
Rees
A Crook
S Crook
Currie
Hogg
Marshall
Cross
Mahmood
Newby

That's one England international, one established pro, at least three players who have played a lot of 1st team cricket in the last couple of years, and two or three promising youngsters. Very strong all through the squad, Lancashire.

They did manage to beat the league leaders by an innings and 228 - the biggest win all season, IIRC.
Just a fluke, helped by a few key Durham players being unavailable...
