Not enough of our players have imaginative nicknames, I think. It's just Tresco, Hildy, Caddy, Johnno and Gazz most of the time. Where are the "Gummy" (Steve Harmison) and "Brocket" (Andrew Strauss) types?

I dread to think what they call Durston and Suppiah (other than Wes and Arul, of course).

the next round of county matches starting tomorow:
Gloucestershire v Hampshire, Cheltenham
Kent v Glamorgan, Canterbury
Middlesex v Warwickshire, Lord's
Sussex v Surrey, Hove

County Championship - Division Two
Essex v Durham, Southend
Leicestershire v Lancashire, Grace Road

predictions anyone?

I woud expect both Hamphshire and Kent too beat the struggiling Glostishire and Glamorgan. Wawriskhire have hit some poor form so id back Middlesex at home and ther is bound too be one draw so il go for sussex and surrey as that.

Hampshire fan, eh? OK, I'll bite.

Hampshire to beat Gloucestershire by four wickets / 75 runs - think it's gonna be close, Met Office says fine weather all through, so there'll be a result, and Gloucestershire have little to fight for
Kent to beat Glamorgan by an innings - Welshmen are helpless
Middlesex to beat Warwickshire by 200runs / six wickets - Middlesex unbeaten in their last six, admittedly two of those against Glamorgan. Streak still out, Giles and Bell with England - most things in favour of Middx
Sussex to draw with Surrey - ok, have to agree, forecast says showers on Friday and Saturday and these sides have drawn 13 of 21 games this season.

So far I agree with you all the way...

Essex to beat Durham by 250 runs / ten wickets - Collingwood can't continue his stunning form, neither can Mark Davies. Essex need a win to keep hold of the promotion places.
Leicestershire to lose Lancashire by 100 runs / five wickets - Lancashire also need a win, Leicestershire have a bunch of all-rounders and Twenty20 specialists.

Haha, Northants 9/0 off 4.5 - Shoaib taking about ten minutes to bowl each over..

I can just see the burberry clad skinheads and tarted up women leaving their newfound sport in droves :D

I don't care to be honest, there's not many outstanding personalities to give them an obvious surname after all..

However, developments from the Twenty 20 final.. From a friend with a magical penchant for acquiring players shirts after the game..

1) Graeme Smith is even nicer in person!
2) I've got a present for you at the Yorkshire game

Puh-leaze God!!!

Looks like you could be in luck there Rich! :D

And by the way, he's right about Smith - I've met him twice........ :p :p (not to mention Tresco three times)

Have you? I hope his girlfriend enjoyed her nights out in Taunton, must have reminded her of Mannenberg on a bad night with our newly acquired force of riot policemen and armored vans!

I've just met Andrew Hall and Boeta Dippenaar.. Thoroughly nice chaps

I didn't get a chance to have a proper one-on-one conversation with GCS on either occasion, but I was one of a group of fans chatting to him at the end of the day when he scored 152 for the touring South Africans in 2003, and he was very friendly then, and I met him again after the Oval Test the same year - tried to get him to sign an autograph bat the second time, and he was extremely apologetic about the fact the pen didn't work! :D

I've heard Andrew Hall is a little up his own ar*e - his old SA school played at my school a few weeks back, and he came down from Canterbury to watch. All of our 1st XI met him and spoke to him, and apparently he was a little disinterested and not the most friendly of chaps. I only heard he had been there after the match had finished, otherwise I'd have gone and chatted to him myself.

Tresco is a very nice chap, he was very appreciative of my congratulations on last year's Test performances when I saw him at Taunton towards the end of last year.

It been a while since i last posted on here

But Worcester are poor its the poor we have ever been in recent years it is worrying that Moody NEVER took us forward. But at Least we got Steve Davies who will play for England within 3 years.

Well done to Somerset for winning the Twenty20 cup this year, i was wrong to suggest they should be in the Minor Counties but i think that Derbyshire should be

Well, it does champion mediocre cricketers, so what does Twenty20 tell you about ability? Zilch..
I don't think any counties are weak enough to play in the minor counties league, test nations maybe...

Shoaib Akhtar just belted 36* off 17 balls at the end of a dead game at New Road, they should have sent him in at 10 instead of 11 and it might have got interesting.

It was an entertaining little jolly. Three 6s, one of which cleared the D'Oliveira stand!

Shafyat's little med-pace dobbers were pretty effective in the latter part of the Worcester innings when they were trying to tee-off, took 4 for 30-odd. Possible for our ODI team in the coming years I'd say.

Afzaal played well for Northants, now sporting a KP-esque skunk-style hair-do, he actually played like the big fella too. :p

Sorry - I was assuming it would have been Nadeem Malik or Matt Mason, or someone else who doesn't know one end of the bat from the other.

I didn't know the Raymeister opens the batting for his province in Zimbabwe, I only found out today - they must have a very weak FC system for him to open over there and be a tailender over here.

don't worry, as you can see from my sig he is one of my favourite players ever. And I am fully aware that he isn't a genius, that's why i admire him so much.

I think they call Arul Suppiah "Rully" which isn't very imaginative. On the subject of him, I'm not sure how far he'll go, his talent is evidenced by the fact he makes runs for fun for Devon (thanks Arul) but that innings last night was very poor. Also his club side Seaton are struggling big time in the Premier league

i think Gazzard has a BIG future, not exaggerating I think he could play for England looking at him the last few games. Obviously not being a somerset fan I don't know what he's like most of the time.

He opens the batting  - Mind you he does have a first class century to his name, but he does still avg under 17

Midlands are the weakest province anyway, but they used to use him to wear out the new ball, he is very solid in defence.
