***Official*** English Domestic Season 2009

Rashid with two five-fors and two hundreds in two matches.

Surely has to be ahead of the useless Monty as the second choice spinner now.

Yeah, only need one spinner for the South African series but Monty has been passed over now. Any semblance of form and he would have been playing at The Oval. England instead went for a bowler who is completely useless on such surfaces.

Back to the county game, if Surrey are going to play Meaker they should at least give him the new ball. It doesn't make the greatest of sense given your quickest bowler the old soft ball when he could do some real damage with the new ball. Seems to be improving his control, just hope he doesn't become gun barrel straight like Chris Jordan.

Danish Kaneria, 31 off 21 balls 8-) as the Essex lead goes past 100 ... looks like we'll be battling away for another draw tomorrow.

And Lancs will be in a similar position by the look of it. Yorkshire 72-5 to 386-7.

Billy Godleman sent on loan to Essex for the rest of the season and will be at a new club next season, after rejecting a two extension with Middlesex. Some comedown for the player, talked about as the next big thing in English cricket from the age of 13/14 but has spent this season out of form and being trumped by even younger cricketers at the club (Sam Robson).

Hopefully Sam Northeast works out.

Hmmm, yeah ... you wonder whether being talked of in those terms was good for him, or led to an unhealthy attitude. I think that happens with a lot of young players, when they should be learning the game they're asking for sponsored cars and the like.

As for Surrey, words fail me. Jon Batty had to open after keeping for 152 overs, and predictably got out in the first over. He isn't even in form, he hasn't passed 50 once this season. Surely someone else, Spriegel probably, could have gone out there? Perhaps Batty is considered more expendable.

My god WTF is going on in CC cricket these days. Schofield scoring a hundred & those bowling attacks on show are utter trash. Horrific standard of cricket.

Lancashire trying to lose against Yorkshi*e. Unbeaten 150odd for Rashid and apparently Horton & Loye have both been dropped off Bresnan.

Schoey has always been able to bat though; had 22 f-c fifties before this match. Trouble is now we need a repeat performance after losing five wickets for 47. :@

I used to take photographs at Taunton behind where the groundsman sits.. The guy is a top bloke, he basically gets told by the club to prepare lifeless tracks..
Well he's obviously excellent at his job! It's hard to imagine someone carrying out his brief more effectively. But why would the club want a pitch that makes it hard for its team to win? It can't be good for gate receipts and it can't be good for getting championship points. It just seems like madness to me.

For those who follow the CC - if you had to nominate one batsman and one seam bowler to play in SA, who would it be?

Trescothic and Davies. Quite frankly because I feel Trescothic is still one of the best batsmen up and down the counrty and Davies one of the best seam bowlers when fit. Although I know neither will happen for differing reasons.

On a more realistic note Key/Joyce and Sidebottom.

Oh and ftr if you ask me tomorrow or had asked me yesterday it will be / would have been a different answer.

Steven Davies off to Surrey on a three year contract. Ten years ago that would guarantee England selection but it should help him further his England career nevertheless.

Batty has also left Worcestershire. Solanki rumoured to be going as well.
