If that were the case, they'd all be playing for them, but they're quite clearly not, because the Ireland C&G side is a domestic side.
Nah Niall and Rankin will only get released if it is Intercontinental Cup or whatever or if they play an international side with Test or ODI Status which is mostly during England's off-season.

He missed two or 3 weeks out when he played for North Sydney through Ireland duties which as stated before are mainly during the English off-season.

Way to agree with what I said whilst purporting to say I was wrong.

Good cricketer, should take a hatful of wickets with the new ball, Yasir Arafat should also compliment him nicely. Kent’s squad looks pretty good, two quality county batsman and a plethora of decent to good county bowlers.

Gideon Kruis should have, too - disappointingly, in both seasons he performed less well than he had in South Africa.

Something in the air?
Possibly (:)), although, Deon has been Yorkshire’s leading wicket taker for the past two seasons irrespective of the fact his nothing more than a track conditioned tormenter (whose performances were never startling back home).

McLaren, could struggle in the latter half of the season for he lacks genuine pace (hence the reason why say Friedel de Wet has been optioned as next in line for South Africa instead of Ryan) but as new ball bowlers go he was one of the best in South Africa. More than decent batsman as well and he should ton up a few times.

I like Ed Smith and I think he was unlucky to represent England on only a few occasions. His consistency in the domestic game is impressive, and he's not even 30 yet. What chances of him getting another chance for England ?

Probably unlikely now, with the central conracts

Yes, I agree it is unlikely they will go outside of the players that are contracted generally. However, there are 7 batsmen with central contracts and one of those is Trescothick, whose international future appears unsure. A couple of batters out of nick and you never know, Smiths consistency may be rewarded. He is at a good age at 29, should know his game and would need less settling in period than throwing a youngster in.

Still, there are probably the likes of Shah, Key, etc ahead of him.

Yeh i guess, But Key has only made one decent score at international level. We should try something new rather than tried and tested failures. Didnt Smith get 50 on debut?

Woodster

International Captain
Yes, think he got 64, but had three or four failures after that. Not really given enough time to assert himself on the international scene.

To be fair to Key, who I also think may be deserving of another chance down the line, he did get thet double hundred against W.I., and 93 not out against the same team. He got 83 in S.A. and his maiden half century in Australia. His Test average of 31 is not the worst, but he can improve on that.

Woodster

International Captain
Think that'd be a touch unfair though for someone that hasn't been given a consistent run in the side.
Didnt really help himself last year with a fairly average season by his standards.

I think Alastair Cook needs a long run in the England team, I have plenty of time to watch that guy. The way he plays spin is very adrmirable.

Woodster

International Captain
Yes I agree, Alistair Cook looks to have a very uncomplicated style, and is strong off his hips, and drives and cuts well, not forgetting his pull/hook shot. I think with him opening with Strauss and the return of Vaughan means that although we do inevitably miss Trescothick, his absence is perhaps not felt as much with this top 3.
