Doubt it, probably just the Thunderclap batting of Scott Newman.Something in the air?

I don't think it's terribly likely Smith will ever play a Test again, TBH - he's a bit unfortunate, certainly, as he's had a better career than most, though with him apparently opening all the time it cuts his options as there are many openers in the frame.Yes, I agree it is unlikely they will go outside of the players that are contracted generally. However, there are 7 batsmen with central contracts and one of those is Trescothick, whose international future appears unsure. A couple of batters out of nick and you never know, Smiths consistency may be rewarded. He is at a good age at 29, should know his game and would need less settling in period than throwing a youngster in.
Still, there are probably the likes of Shah, Key, etc ahead of him.
I have no time for these sort of "improvements", it reeks to much of American behaviour. They are taking away the human factor from umpiring and trying to replace it with technology which I feel is a mistake. The respect for umpires will be greatly diminished. Also something else that has happened is that they have introduced appeals against umpiring decisions in the 50 over comp. Link
Precisely zero, he's not an international standard player and the only reason he got given a go in 2003 was because of his freakishly good form in the CC that year.I like Ed Smith and I think he was unlucky to represent England on only a few occasions. His consistency in the domestic game is impressive, and he's not even 30 yet. What chances of him getting another chance for England ?
I agree, i think this system is nothing more than a compromise for the safety of the umpires careers, i think we should either go the whole hogg and leave the umpire in complete charge if and when he wants to use the technology avalible to him or not at all.I have no time for these sort of "improvements", it reeks to much of American behaviour. I was saying that yesterday. People are going to accuse umpires diminishing thier position in the game. Whats the point of having perfect decisions? human error makes for better viewing IMOI have no time for these sort of "improvements", it reeks to much of American behaviour. What's the point in having perfect decisions? That's like asking what's the point in trying to cure cancer.I was saying that yesterday. People are going to accuse umpires diminishing thier position in the game. Whats the point of having perfect decisions? human error makes for better viewing IMO
