Darned weather blew Derbyshire away yesterday when they were 136-0.

Now 220-odd for 2 against Leicestershire - not too shabby with Stubbings and Birt together.

Incidentally, HRH Surrey are flaying Worcestershire's lacklustre attack to all parts.

Perhaps Worcestershire ought to consider a future in Minor Counties cricket? Let's ask Chris when we see him ;)

... including 4 international bowlers, although I know that doesn't count for much nowadays. Ally Brown's just gone for 17 from his 9 deliveries faced, eventually caught by Hick somewhere near Vauxhall. Presumably a declaration is imminent.

Roses match starts tomorrow, forecast isn't great, but it looks better for Thursday when I'm crossing the border to support the lads. Hope we can continue our decent start to the season and give them a tonking, though tbh i'd take a high scoring draw.

Hopefully we have developed some plans to get Lehmann out.
Stitched up nicely by Keedy, AFAICS. And another couple for Smith already. I'd like to hear what you made of the youngster.

Another rain-shortened day at Derby, but God's own county stand at 399-6 off 120 overs at the end of day 2 against Leicestershire.

Need to bat on now and make as near to 500 as possible and hope they only bat once. No point in a declaration - follow-on or nothing.

Not used to using that turn of phrase (follow-on) where Derbyshire are concerned - apart from when it's preceded by "I see Derbyshire had to" and succeeded by "again".

Happy days.

Going Saturday weather permitting - Pride Park first to pay for my season ticket, Eagle Centre Market to say hello to my RamsTrust pals then a day at t'Racecourse.

Heaven!

very impressed with Smith, easily the pick of the seamers, bowled a tight line and didn't bowl to short, though he was getting decent bounce. About the only ball really short of a length he bowled all day was the bouncer that got Lumb. His opening spell was really good, only 3 scoring shots in 8 overs, one of those being through the slip corden, could have had 2 or 3 in that spell.

Cork bowled poorly today whilst Chapple and Hogg were tidy but not threatening. Keedy was very good, I was calling for him to come on earlier than he did as Yorkshire were looking good with Lehmann and Mcgrath at the crease, Lehmann was completetly done in the first over of his spell, Brophy bowled round his legs. Just a shame about the last wicket stand, Gillespie had a huge LBW appeal turned down against him from the penultimate ball of the day.

Good days cricket though, only lost 11 overs to the weather and i managed to defy the ICC alcohol ruling and get a sun tan.

What ICC rule on alcohol?
The ICC have banned people taking their own alcohol into cricket grounds - Lord's was the only ground in the world to apply for an exemption and they got it - their limit is that you can bring a maximum of 2 pints of beer or 1 bottle of wine in - but they still reserve the right to throw you out and confiscate it.

It was something the ICC didn't think through properly, and was a decision taken 'on the grounds of safety'. Apparently, it was to stop people bringing glass bottles or cans into the ground and using them as missiles, and at the same time force us to drink the over-priced swill that is on sale at the bars.

Note that the consumption of alcohol isn't banned - only the consumption of your own, so there goes a nice glass of chablis at tea. You cannot take even water into the ground in a glass bottle.

Liberal Democrat MP Don Foster has started an online petition against the ban.

Such a half-baked idea, I can only assume that Angus Fraser had something to do with it. Perhaps the next thing will be a drinking 'power play' where you can only have 2 people outside the bar, the twelfth man will be an unemployed supersub wine waiter and Hawkeye will predict the effect that last mouthful will have on your liver.

Does the ICC rule count for domestic games?
Doesn't seem to:

The Oval have banned alcohol sales for what they call 'Category A games' this year:

Test matches
Natwest Series or Challenge ODI
All Twenty20 (not just internationals)
Aussie Rules Football
(now that I can understand, damned Colonials).

For County Championship games, their rules are unchanged - a maximum of 4 500ml cans of beer or a 750ml (plastic) wine container.

C'mon Lancashire, break this last wicket partnership. Interesting day in store tomorrow.
Looks like Gillespie is carrying on from where he left off when he got the 201 no recently - sure it's the new hairdo that has given him the Bradman-like batting ability!

It's because of The Ashes.

Magnificent.
You're right.

I never had the chance to see Eddie Barlow play for Derby, my first Derbyshire matches were soon after. At the time, I was spending the summer in a cricket loving family (who introduced me to cricket). They would always talk about the Barlow years
