comfortable win for Lancs, Durham all out for 182. 4 from 4 for Lancs now, probably need 3 from 5 to book the final place now.

Marshall with 3-36 and Smith 2-22

Hampshire lose to Kent on the penultimate ball. Good to see Thornley getting a century though and i just hope they were resting Tremlett.

Listening to it at the moment - apparently the commentators are suggesting that he was sawn off by the umpire.

Derbyshire currently 200-8 with 4 overs to go - the wicket taking an alarming amount of spin so that may not be as bad as it seems.

Go to the BBC website - they've got radio commentary on most of the C&G matches today.

Just wondering, is there difference in the standard of cricket pretty negligible between the two divisions?

Does what division you play in bear in the minds of England selectors? Would a player change clubs if his team got relegated?

None whatsoever.

Half the test side wouldn't know where some of the county grounds are anyway.

Actually, the other half wouldn't either, being a bunch of rookies. I think that's why they call those tentative steps 'finding your way in the game'.

Thanks LE. I thought I remembered hearing something about Rampers moving to Surrey because Middlesex (??) got demoted a while ago, but maybe that was just me. Anyways, definently a good thing IMO that there is nil difference between the two counties.

The theory was that the best players would 'gravitate' towards the best counties - but the best laid plans of mice, men and the ECB went out of the window when HRH Surrey found themselves with the Derbyshires and Worcestershires ;) of this world.

I suppose the next thing they'll do is take a leaf out of football and rename Division 2 to Division 1, then call Division 1 "the one that Surrey isn't in any more through bad luck and Rampers being a jinx" until Mark Ramprakash leaves and they get promoted again.

Roses match starts tomorrow, forecast isn't great, but it looks better for Thursday when I'm crossing the border to support the lads. Hope we can continue our decent start to the season and give them a tonking, though tbh i'd take a high scoring draw.

Hopefully we have developed some plans to get Lehmann out.
