aye it's been a pretty good day for some England players.

It's also been a good day for cricket, what with Yorkshire conceding an lead and then finishing on 3-2 with dangerman Gillespie gone.

Had the pleasure of watching a fine innings from Mark Ramprakash today, sure it was the archetypical flat track bully knock but boy did he blaze away with some style and grace, played spin with absolute contempt on a track which has offered some considerable turn for the spinners. Only a few more runs away from his career best in first class cricket.

slogger imo
Last season I would agree but he has rained in a little bit, did not hold back today because of the situation and conditions but his a vastly improved cricketer with both bat and ball. Not England class yet though saying these been plenty of other Mickey Mouse characters who have played for England recently don’t see why Benning can not.

There are few batsmen easier on the eye against sub-standard attacks on flat pitches. It's quite a knack - as is fooling the selectors for as long as he did.

Is Benning just a county slogger or is he a future England prospect? He'll be averaging over 40 in FC cricket when his latest innings is included, at a very fast rate, which is usually the sort of players England go for.
Yeah, but he's only played a handful of games. His FC average owes a lot to a hundred against Bangladesh 'A', and he's usually struggled in the CC. He's actually done rather better in the oneday games, but he needs to do a lot more to make serious claim for a place in the ODI side. When looking at his FC average, the other thing to remember is that he plays his home games on one of the best batting tracks in the country, so international players really should be averaging something pretty spectacular. Even Scott Newman's averaging about 47 after a lot more games than Benning, and I don't know many folks that think he should be in the national side.

All that being said, his improvement this year is good to see. Shame we can't produce any bowlers though.

Looks like Hampshire are going to have to work for victory against Middelsex with Strauss on 117 which is good to see. Should still be able to get them out for under 400 which would leave a modest total to chase. Clearly nothing wrong with the Rose Bowl pitch this week.

Certainly better than yesterday!

The Hoggmeister's figures look pretty useful, with so many regular bowlers missing, he's got a huge role next Thursday IMO.

That he does. As always. ;)

All over at the Oval, where Mohammed Akram's surprised everyone with a more than useful performance. I can't believe how easily Glouc folded - an innings and 297. :-O

Warne massacred Middlesex with 7/99, 6 of them today. 10 wicket win for Hampshire.

The match at Headingley is interestingly poised now too. Crucial innings from Lehmann today, and there's a potentially tricky target of 200 odd for Sussex.

leaving work the picture wasn't looking great, Lancashire had collapsed and Lehmann was busy rescuing Yorkshi*e.

Get home and Yorkshi*e have collapsed and Kent are 61-5, happy days
