I thought it was the fact that he was dropped in the 20s and should have gone for nothing if the fine leg was where he should have been.
Richard, is that you? ;)

Carter was class on Sunday
Carter is definitely one of those one-day players who will either be absolutely brilliant or utter rubbish. And his last two performances prove this

Tree Surgeon Billy Taylor is on fire for Hampshire against Middlesex. He's just taken a hatrick (Compton, Weekes and Scott) and his current figures are 5-19 off six overs. Middlesex are 52-6. Just last Thursday Taylor was in the II XI at Billericay.

I feared the worst when I saw Somerset were 100 for 5, but thankfully Tresco has made some runs 58* last checked. OTOH Bell failed in one of 2 FC innings he'll have before the SL test.

Derbyshire 127-1 against the Druids - are they actually playing as though my avatar means something?

Likewise Strauss a duck, as his opening partner is looking to carry his bat here!

I presume it's a hat-trick for Billy Taylor seeing as there are successive first-ballers (notwithstanding no-balls or wides, of course)?

Derbyshire's batting looks okay this season I think. Botha already has a first class ton for the season, Di Venuto is a perfectly good batsman, Birt is a rising star for Tasmania and Hassan Adnan is pretty good too. The worry would be the bowling.

Speaking of lowly counties, Cullen doing a job with the bat and staying with Tresco for Somerset. They've added 59 so far, and Tresco is up to 150.

You jinxed them.

Worcestershire obliterating Bradford/Leeds UCCE right now - Solanki's just come in and is 18*(6). 366-1 from 69.3 overs.

Politics. Politics. Politics.

They're not even in the top division of University Cricket (Exeter and Nottingham are the other sides in the seven-team Premier League A)... however UCCE/MCCU status is supposed to include other things such as large catchment areas (B/L includes Bradford, Leeds, Leeds Met... etc) and for some reason, continued presence as being one of the best in the country doesn't get you recognised. Not that I'm bitter.
