A shockingly bad start from Somerset really. Gloucs could not bad for toffee last year and for them to post such a good score was one suprise, and then to make a mockery of the Somerset batting was even more suprising. Lewis getting 10-75 is fantastic figures and 5-60 for Harvey too is impressive. Ill be interested to read reports on there bowling.

Lancs and Hampshire drawing. I thought Lancs would win this game and when they bowled the Hampshire side out, which I have said for months will struggle for runs this season, I was confident my prediction would come true. But Lancs couldn't do much, 4-52 for Bruce and the draw seemed inevitable. 8pts for Lancs and 7 for Hants by my calculations.

Typical effort by some journo who doesn't actually follow the county game very much. Most of us know that Surrey have no attack whatsoever, so it's going to be difficult to actually win many games, even if our batting should ensure that we don't lose many. And Somerset are well overplaced in 4th place.

It is laughable. BBC also have Durham to finish bottom of the CC with Lancs one place ahead.

I wish they wouldn't let people who clearly have no idea about County Cricket to write about it.

To be honest, the Derbyshire squad doesn't look much stronger than in the previous years and I still fear they will finish bottom. I just expected them to be thrashed by Surrey

Onions strikes again!!! Kent in tatters!

I told you Onions looked great in pre-season and even though his economy isn't the best, what does that matter when he is taking vital wickets.

Poor match for new Captain Key

Somerset beaten by an innings in a rain affected game by Gloucestershire... Not that it matters at all though, we have the Twenty20 cup!

I've read quite a few profiles predicting Derbyshire to come last or close to it.

Being a follower of Tasmanian cricket I'm used to it

Oh, you'll need all the humour you can muster following Derbyshire all right.

That last wicket before stumps, if I have my time zones right they surely won't bother coming back out now, was handy.

In this game it doesn't matter so much with Surrey following on and 3 wickets down but will the captains set a target on the final day, say 260 from 50 overs, to try and manufacture a result. It is probably not as important to go for the win over there with the batting and bowling points, as well as the points for a draw. In Aus you only get points for leading on the first innings (2) and winning the match (max 6) so that happens quite often, especially in games affected by rain.

People are getting more and more nervous with respect to 'contrived' results now, especially with the advent of spread betting. No-one wants to be seen as a 'bit of a Hansie'.

I reckon the Surrey v Derbyshire match has a half-decent chance of a result provided they get a decent run at it from the weather tomorrow, but of course early wickets for the visitors are a must (please, please, please, pretty please).

Fair enough too, although I don't see the appeal of betting on (domestic) cricket, it is not widely done here.

HRH Surrey look as though they are trying to grind things out for a draw - only managed 19 in the first 10 overs so far this morning for the loss of Ally Brown. Butcher 2 hours so far for 19 - Rikki in now too.

Come on Derbyshire - they're effectively 62-4.

What a opening day for Durham. Better than I could ever have hoped for. An emphatic win against a Kent side who must be asking themselves a lot of questions after being whipped by our second string bowling attack.

Utterly delighted
