i am not a big one for bringing inyounger overseas players...the overseas players should be there to support the younger home grown talent

I view overseas players as being there to pass on experiance to the younger players too, but the 2 overseas player rule makes the whole point of the overseas players being there into winning games. Seriously I don't see the point in bringing players like Scott Brant or Ashley Noffke over, they arn't going to to teach anyone anything, and why should we be giving them valuable experiance in English conditions? I don't feel they are better than most English seamers either.

dont know whether Waqar is a backwrds step...with his experience that he can pass onto younger fast bowlers...he performed well last year, and is a legendary player, and would definatly draw the crowds in (especially younger Asians) which can only be a good thing
Draw the crowds in, yeah right.
Crowds don't come to watch domestic First-Class cricket and they haven't for about 30 years. One player isn't going to change that. For that matter, I highly doubt anything will change that - it's just a fact of modern cricket.

well a big name player will draw people into watching maybe the one dayers more..and even if the big name player only increases crowds by a little bit, it maybe worth it in the long term.

in the example of waqar, there are a hell of a lot of potential cricketers in the asian communities around the Birmingham...his presence may well encourage some youngsters into going to see him, which may result in them taking up the game, which may well result in them eventually playing for England.

If they know who Waqar is sufficiently for his presence to increase the chances of them coming to watch, the chances are they have already taken-up the game!
Still, I don't think watching domestic cricket will increase the chances of good players playing. Internationals are the spectator branch; young spectators are the future of the game's spectatorship.

If Kid A (no not a radiohead reference),Kid B and Kid C say to Kid D and E (who havent been to a game before and maybe think cricket is crap) 'c'mon lets have a laugh and go to the 20/20game at Egbaston' and D & E go and enjoy it, and maybe start playing, then I think that is great for the game.

I am sure the presence of Waqar (or any other big star) attracts attention in the local press or on the local news etc, its all exposure, with as far as I can tell, is a great way of telling people about the game.

anything is surely better than nothing!!!!?????

and anyway, there are other reasons why Warwickshire could do worse than have Waqar there....he is hugley experienced, wouldnt it be great if he could teach a youngster the skills of reverse swing..or anything like that...great for English cricket

Just read that Middlesex have signed Hayward & Kluesner for the coming season.
Don't know if it's true or not.

If. He can only teach them if they want to learn. Too many of them don't.
And anything is not better than nothing if you lay out a large-sum contract to attract... 6 new fans.
Far better to save the money IMO.

Andy Bichel's younger brother Marcus Bichel is 28...
:P
Don't even know if he's got a younger brother, certainly don't know about his age or name.
Where on Earth did c.h get Andrew Bichel being 28 from?
