Glen Chappell 110* of 84 balls, dont know whether he got his hundred in less than 80 balls but its possible he may be the new leader of the Walter Lawrence.

He failed by 2 balls.

Brad Hogg Taking wickets now take Note Marc Leg-spinners are on the way back
Yes great - an Aussie import left arm chinaman bowler who is having a bad season with the ball picks up 4 wickets (whilst going at 4+ an over) on a pitch where even Mark Wagh takes 3.

Quite what that tells us about English leg spinners I don't know.

Sure am - much to Mr Hinton's chagrin.

Bell looks set for another ton (think that is something like 3 or 4 in the last week and a bit!)

He's certainly on fire (nice weather for it too). Pieterson got a quickfire 150+ too.

Keedy with 5-109 off 40 and 3-49 off 17 would be a better role model
Keedy has been knocking on the door for a while..do you think he could be a second spin option for the South Africa tour

TBH his batting isnt good enough.... if we found a fast bowler that could bat a bit he might b an option but for the moment the spinner has to be able to bat unfortunately

and by the time the likes of 'Geoff' Bresnan and Chris Tremmlett and the other up and coming bowlers who can bat a bit are knocking on the door, Keedys time might well have passed.

IMO you have to have a number eight who can bat a bit,you can only have 3 genuine tail enders, and right now Hoggard doesn't have any attacking shots, Harmison and Anderson aren't much cop and Jones debut promise has remained unfulfilled

but England cant really go out there with just one spinner...who else can bowl spin well and bat

Unfortunately only Bradford's finest (oxymoron) Gareth Batty
of course...forgot about him.

Do you think thats how England should play it then, go for the batting as opposed to bowling ability...i mean Giles would still be first choice for tests in SA, but if required, do you not think a good spinner is better than an average spinner (not saying Batty is only average,i think he has decent potential) with decent batting abilty.

I am not disagreeing with you by the way,I am just wondering what would be best

I think maybe Keedy should have gone to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka after last season - then he could have played with Giles in tandem.

Now if only Harmison and Hoggard had similar batting prowess to Caddick and early Gough then i could see Keedy playing as it is we are only going to play one spinner in SA and that will be Giles. If Giles is unavailable then yes it has to be Batty, we saw what happened to WI tail in WI with Best, Edwards, Collins and Collymore.

The long term goal must be to have players who have sufficient batting prowess that we can pick the best bowling line up regardless of batting ability but at the moment that is not the case.

Sorry if that's a bit muddled but my general viewpoint is that our strength is pace and so we should play our best pace attack and that means our spinner has to bat!

Add in the fact that Giles is a better bowler...

Regardless of the fact Giles is a long way ahead of Keedy, I would defintely not want Caddick or Giugh batting at 8 for my side.
